Celtic have made a bid of around £1.5m to Newcastle for goalkeeper Fraser Forster after a successful loan spell with the Glasgow club last season.

Manager Neil Lennon is keen to see Forster return to the club on a permanent basis.

The 23-year-old arrived on loan in August and went on to make 44 appearances for the club.

And, despite leaving without a Scottish Premier League winner's medal, Lennon wants him back.

Last month, Forster's manager at Newcastle - Alan Pardew - had cast doubt over how much benefit a season in Scotland's top-flight had provided the player.

Pardew was quoted as saying: "We've been disappointed with the quality of the games, other than the occasional Rangers versus Celtic game, and even some of those have been poor."

But the tall goalkeeper managed 24 clean-sheets during the course of a campaign that ended with Scottish Cup victory last month against Motherwell at Hampden.

And Lennon sees him as the man to continue in the Celtic goal when they kick-off their new season at Hibernian in four week's time.

No chance, Pardew said he wants to judge Harper Krul and Forster in pre-season and £1.5m is a poor offer really

Pards complaining about the quality of the games he got last season suggests that he wants to keep him on doesn't it? Can't see this happening for that price .. Fosters supposed to be a fairly good prospect .. get him out on loan again to a Championship club (are you listening Chris Hughton?) or another Prem club and review again at the end of that loan spell ..

  8. I'm sorry but Harper has done everything and should stay, Krul is just too promising to send away, so i'm afraid Forster is going to have to be loaned or sold.

    £3m you on drugs mate?

For a keeper who still has a long way to go and is at a time in his career when first team football is a must the offer is very good. If you don't sell him you'll ruin him he's not as good as Krul or Harper although the potential is there, loaning someone out every season to someone else will leave him unsettle and won't help him.

£3 million seems apt for a young, talented ENGLISH goalkeeper.

I've highlighted the key word for you to show why the price is inflated.

Why should we sell him for £1.5m when he was the potential to be a class keeper, he has won the golden glove the last 2 seasons in the league he was playing in, he has aleast another 15 years in the game, so yes £3m is the minimum I would take, but I wouldn't sell him at all if I was in charge, he would be no 2 keeper next season behind Krul

If Ben Foster leaves Birmingham, then he should defo go there on loan, IMO the championship is much harder than the SPL

I watched him week in week out last season, he's not anywhere near a £3m keeper IMO. Anyone looking to spend that much would expect more than Foster. Perhaps a deal that would increase the price if he went on to make a **** load of of appearances would be best.

    Henderson cost Liverpool £20 million.
    Carroll cost Liverpool £35 million.

Neither of these are worth anywhere near that value but if you're English and have potential; that inflates the price.

That's applicable to Forster. You pay extra for the nationality.

Would you say Henderson was worth £20m, Carroll £35m, NO you are paying or potential, we are not going to sell a player (local lad) at a recuded price, when is he highly regarded by the club and clearly by Celtic the fact they have come back in for him

Liverpool are aff their nut. We don't have £3m to spend on a keeper I don't think anyone else will bid £3m we won't go any higher for a keeper who still has major flaws (doesn't command in the air for such a big lad and can't play the sweeper part and be off his line when teams break, and also can be slow to get down).

Played first team for Celtic in SPL & CL (albeit very briefly), if they want him they need to dig deeper than £1.5Million. Send him on loan again this year (hopefully to Brum) to gain more experience and to play regular first team football. The guy saying he'll be unsettled by getting first team football on loan is clearly mental, Harper's got a few more seasons but after that Krul & Forster can fight it out for our #1 jersey. Forster may even have a better shot at claiming that as he'll have a lot of 1st team football through going on loan while Krul sits on the bench behind Harper.
