25 Years ago Ceefax was the only wat to get live scores for midweek games and racing results as they happened. Also 1000s of pages of travel deals that you couldn't rewind on. **** compared to today's technology, but I.m sure many on here used it in the past. NB - There will be a minutes silence at Anfield on Saturday in memory of Ceefax
When I used to work nights many years ago, I used to come home at 4-5am and catch up on the news via ceefax It was a bastard if there was 10 pages of local news and you missed page 7 or whatever and had to go all the way around again
It's still there on digital. I used to like reading the letters page. It was full of whinging, right-wingers complaining about the youth of today, foreigners and the unemployed. A bit like General Chat in fact.
The anticipation when the page flicked and nothing changed, but you knew it was going to update with something in the next few seconds. The gutted feeling when it was a goal against and the standing up punching the air and saying "get in!" when we scored! Many a betting slip screwed up and tossed away watching the racing results and a few anxious waits for sp's.
The quiz on Channel 4, Bamboozle?, if you got one wrong it would send you back to the start. Cricket updates were probably faster than the BBC website ones now.
