Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has said that Sunderland’s Stadium of Light is the toughest Premier League ground to visit, describing the Wearside crowd as ‘intense, loud and emotional.’

Cech is currently enjoying his 13th season in English football, having taken in an 11-year stay at Chelsea before joining Arsenal.

He has experienced his fair share of away grounds during his time in England but it is the Stadium of Light which sticks out as the toughest in Cech’s mind - despite never being on the losing side in all nine of his appearances on Wearside.

The former Czech Republic international’s most recent experience of the Stadium of Light came in October’s 4-1 win for Arsenal, when he gave away a penalty for a foul on Duncan Watmore, and he believes the atmosphere Black Cats fans generate is ‘challenging’ but something he enjoys.

“I think Sunderland is one of the places I don’t like to go,” said Cech speaking to the Premier League’s official website.

“When you have a wind, dark day and the home support is always up for it, so it is a difficult place to go.

“I actually enjoy games like this, where it is intense and the crowd is very loud and really emotional - it makes the game spicy.

“I like that because football is about emotions. Football is about bringing people in.

“Obviously as a player it is challenging but it’s something I enjoy.”

Nice of him to say those things, but looking at his record he's only kept one clean sheet so he can't be that good.<laugh>
