Probably not short of money considering we've already spent £20mill already and are about to break our record transfer fee for Soldado. Is Wenger still mulling over his spending spree?
Strange move by Spurs , unless as mentioned by one of our posters Spurs know something the rest don't, we all know caulker likes the nightlife so maybe its a case of moving him on as they don't see that extra few percent of dedication needed to become a spurs standard regular ?? Its a gamble signing for Cardiff, if they go down then so does his career IMO, as it would be proved that he aint good enough to keep the goals out,a great signing by Cardiff though fair play to them. Im also guessing the boy is going to be on a fair wedge down there and has set himself up for life without really proving himself at the top level,a modern day problem for young British players imo. Good luck to Caulks but maybe Spurs have decided he aint the one after all ?
This has to be our dumbest piece of transfer business in a long while. Let's hope we have a ready made, quality replacement to fill the gap as our CB positions suddenly look a bit thin on options.
We clearly have someone ready as backup or atleast something planned. Levy + Baldini + AVB didn't all suddenly lose their marbles at the same time. Caulker has not progressed at all this year and while he is an okay prospect he doesn't look like he'll ever be more than a europa league level centre back, we clearly have someone better / with more potential lined up.
Seems to be mixed emotions here regarding the departure of Caulker. Is there any truth to his socialising getting in the way of his progression at Spurs?
taff there was one incident where he was arrested in swansea and cautioned after a night out and brendan rogers had to have a quiet word but i think he learned from that.
Taff, I know it was an issue when he was at the Swans and Brenden stamped it out sharpish, all players of course go out and socialise, nothing wrong with it either as long as they are sensible, caulker got involved in a scuffle wha bit pissed shouting the "do you know who I am blood " and by all accounts was a bit of a knob head on the beer, im not for one minute saying he has a problem with that side of his professionalism but it does maybe show why he perhaps hasn't quite reached his max potential at Spurs ? To make it at Spurs you need t be 100% totally dedicated, that club is a level above Swans and Cardiff, maybe caulker just wants to play games right now and feels that playing week in week out will work best for him instead of biding his time at the lane,he could put himself in the window for the world cup if he does great at cardiffbut having watched him over the summer in the U21's he wasn't as great as he could have been. Maybe spurs were thinking he has reached his level and decided to cash in instead
My mate used to play for Barnsley youth and while he acknowledges Caulker was a great player he's always said he was a grade A twat that thought he was the bees knees.
A fair few people are upset and calling him the next King and we have made a mistake selling him. I say people, more like morons on twitter. Personally, I think that if your manager see's you a step behind a half fit Gallas you're in a bit of bother if you want regular football. He looked good at Swansea. However, last season I think I am right in saying he gave away at least two goals from poor judgement? For me he was a good squad player, but if he does have want to reach his full potential he had to move away.
Mixed feelings on this. 2 years ago I was convinced he would become the next in our recent line of outstanding homegrown centre backs - Campbell, King, Caulker. His progression has obviously stalled for some reason or another and the club think they can get a better player in. Bear in mind we didn't pay much more than £8m for Vertonghen so there's every chance they could be right. I think he probably could have moved a little higher up the food chain than Cardiff - A Newcastle, West Brom or Fulham would be a better move for him if he has England aspirations in World Cup year... Anyway I wish him the best as I've always liked him and he never complained about his long spells of bench-warming, then again if he does an Anton Ferdinand I won't be too devastated.
Congratulation Cardiff, bloody fantastic purchase if you ask me. Spurs - well, strange decision, hope you have a plan
I see the logic behind getting rid of Caulker. Yes he is young etc etc...however from what I have seen, he has mistakes in him...clumsy ones, lack of concentration, positioning to name two. Not saying he can't improve but maybe we are trying to nurture a higher standard of youngsters than that. The players that achieve big things don't have such faults even at a young age. Playing for England really does not add weight to a player's quality nowadays. For me this is the same reason why BAE is out of favour. Yes he has all the things that make a lot of fans think he is cool etc. however from a footballing perspective he is no Ledley King....BAE comes with at least one gift wrapped opportunity for the opponents per match. I think we are fine tuning our squad...and we are after the likes of Coentrao and that Romanian cb from Steua...kind of proves that we are thinking right.
I know you have Tots...I've always felt that. Yes he's exciting with his Cruyff turns and he's what people regard as cool with his demeanour. Yes I'd also say there isn't too many left backs out there to choose from. Still I don't think he is as polished as he should be at his age. He definitely comes with a few mistakes in him....mistakes that I blame on this laid back attitude of his that do many love.
Spot on, Spurlock,it's alright being laid back, but not during a match, you need need you wit's about you in the P/L,BAE loses concentration, and that leads to costly mistakes
Cheers Notso..Trying to work my way up the gears before the big kick off. The period away was needed. Been reading on a daily basis and following your on going debate with DL lol.
Again again again, never miss an excuse to have a go at BAE, when (1) he was the model of pefection compared to Walker last season, (2) has his mistakes constantly highlighted when others do not, thus giving the impression he makes more, and (3) it is not confirmed he is 'out of favour' because he also had a long term injury at the same time, so a lot of the time he did not appear because he simply wasn't fit enough to manage 90 minutes. Anyway, this is about Caulker. I think they wouldn't have sold him unless Spurs were confident about Kabooms long term fitness. It was suggested that Kaboom may have a similar long term issue to King but I haven't seen any evidence of that, and I don't think it would have been mentioned had King not been at the same club. Don't forget we have three top quality centre backs that a lot of premiership teams would love to have.
Vim..I praised BAE once....maybe twice...but I don't think he's as good as you make out. I agree about Walker...he has no positional sense. I find with him however that he has the ball for us much further up the field. Away from where he is actually quite poor I.e around our keeper's area. Either he does improve or I can see us getting shot of him too.
