http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/109...et_to_step_up_pursuit_of_Bridcutt/?ref=twtrec Former Albion boss Gus Poyet is poised to step up his pursuit of Liam Bridcutt - by selling Lee Cattermole. Cattermole is being linked with a move to Premier League rivals Stoke City, which could clear the way for Sunderland to increase their bid for Bridcutt. Stoke are closing in fast on Cattermole for a transfer package of around £5 million, according to the Sentinel newspaper. Cattermole occupies the defensive midfield role at the Stadium of Light earmarked by Poyet for Bridcutt. The Seagulls rejected a £2 million bid for Bridcutt at the beginning of the January transfer window. Chairman Tony Bloom is determined to keep hold of the player of the season for the last two years but Bridcutt has made clear his desire to leave Albion. He had a transfer request rejected in the wake of Sunderland's offer and told the management staff he was not in the right frame of mind to play at Derby last Saturday after recovering from injury.
STOKE City are closing fast on Sunderland's unsettled midfielder Lee Cattermole, The Sentinel understands. The 25 year-old midfielder is thought to be on the market for somewhere approaching £5m in total. He would certainly add bite to City's midfield after picking up seven red cards in a career starting at Middlesbrough and progressing to Wigan before following Steve Bruce to Sunderland for £6m in the summer of 2009. Cattermole's arrival would cast question marks over the immediate future of the likes of Glenn Whelan and Wilson Palacios if Stoke can attract bids before the end of the January transfer window. Sunderland are certainly interested in a fire sale of established players at the Stadium of Light after bringing in new faces already in January. Stoke boss Mark Hughes is desperate to freshen up his side - preferably with a new striker but he has not ruled out other areas of the team. How are we interested in a fire sale? As far as im aware we are only looking to get rid of the likes of Graham and send the kids out on loan
I do not have problem with Catts going, he can play very well but too often he drops the team in it...we cannot afford to be dropped in it any more. I have no idea if Bridcutt is any good, the manager lives and dies by the team and their performance on the pitch.
Id be disappointed to see Cattermole go as a fan of the lad but not surprised at all. There going to have to be quite a few outgoings and incomings under the new manager as our entire midfield is lacking pace and guile and has been responsible in part to 3 seasons of rubbish football now. They create nothing and tbf, Colback does the same job but with a bit more level headedness and IMO will sign a new contract this summer if not before. Larsson and Gardner will not be offered contracts imo this summer and will surely be moved on and if we decide to cash in on Catts to accommodate Poyet's long term plan then so be it.
If we could get 5m I'd sell, that's a very good fee and Catts is on high wages Wouldn't mind keeping him though
too right mate, not as if we can see 35k worth of talent week in week out, but up till now i see someone who can drop us in it at the drop of a hat with wild tackles and a bit injury prone.
I love catts on his day but your bang on and chuck saturdays performance in and its bye bye for me Or even buy buy - sel sell
Its everywhere this catts thing like, not even worth a link its that rife On the plus side my **** is ready for the morn
I don't think we can afford to let cat's go. Not if we can't move Gards on and sign Brid plus another cm. I don't want Gards being the only back up to bridcutt. I don't think we can sell Gards. Suspect it's his wage demands. It's the one window he has to ask for the same money otherwise he can just stay put till the end of the season and take a wage cut then.

Catts has some good points, but in the passing game we have adopted under Poyet, he looks more of a liability than an asset at times..
I would snap their hands off for £5m. Catts just isn't a good enough footballer to fit into how Poyet wants us to play. Too slow of motion and thought IMO
