LEE Cattermole hopes new signing Nicklas Bendtner will provide a helping hand to Sunderlandâs misfiring front pair. Asamoah Gyan and Stephane Sessegnon have drawn a blank this season, despite starting each of Sunderlandâs three Premier League encounters in tandem as a strike duo. The arrival of deadline-day acquisition Bendtner provides boss Steve Bruce with the chance to tinker with his attack for Saturdayâs Stadium of Light encounter with Chelsea. Bendtner, who grabbed a classy brace in Denmarkâs Euro 2012 qualifying win over Norway last night, will train with his new team-mates for the first time tomorrow after agreeing his season-long loan from Arsenal while away on international duty. Bruce has the option of using the 23-year-old either as a direct replacement for Gyan or as a partner for the Ghanaian, with Sessegnon moving to a wide midfield role. And with Connor Wickham and Ji Dong-won also in reserve, skipper Cattermole believes Sunderland now have sufficient options in attack. Cattermole said: âI donât know how much of an out-and-out striker Stephane is. He does really well in the hole, but Iâm not sure how many goals heâll get us. âThereâs been a lot of pressure on Asa being the only experienced striker up there. Weâve got Connor and Iâm sure Nicklas can help him. They can be similar types of players. âIâve always like him (Bendtner) to be honest with you. Heâs a big presence, heâs got an attitude about him. âI donât know him as a person but as a player heâs got ability. âHopefully heâll settle in quickly. He played a lot down the left for Arsenal but I think heâs better in the middle. âHeâll definitely be playing up front for us, Iâm sure of that. He can only help us at the minute.â Taking chances has been the big problem for Sunderland this season with just one goal from four games which have included a derby defeat and a Carling Cup exit. With back-to-back home games against Chelsea and Stoke on the horizon, Cattermole knows the Black Cats need to find an attacking edge to lift the mood on Wearside. âWeâve had three league games and we just want to get up and running now,â added the 23-year-old. âI can see why people are saying the pressureâs been building with the defeat being a derby, but anyone whoâs looked at our games will see weâve been creating chances and weâve looked like we wonât concede a goal. âItâs going to take time so maybe the international break has come at a good time for us. Weâve got two home games now and theyâre both tough but theyâre winnable. âIf we get things right, we can win both of these games Maybe the team shape is finally starting to pick itself, and SB will get rid of his idea of his stubborn stance of playing Gyan with Sess behind him. For this reason alone i'm happy about aquiring Bendtner, maybe now in the up-coming games we will see the full potential of our new recruits blended in with the old. For me things are looking rosy, our first choice team should give most a damn good game.
Hes was hardly going to say "Bendtners a bellend, and we havent got a snowballs chance in hell against Chelsea" though.
Thats what i think though but im not going to say it not about bendther i think he's a good addition just we have no chance. Oh for another goal like K.Philips Come on you reds
Well I'm all for realism but I hope the team have a more optimistic attitude than you lot, not a cat in hells chance you say. I think that providing we get the right team out then indeed we can take all three points from Chelsea and Stoke, more so Chelsea than Stoke for me.
