Lee Cattermole is very doubtful for the Burnley game according to the Echo. Although we're not leaking goals and the defence is pretty solid, we still miss his influence and driving force on the pitch IMO. Saying that, I would rather we didn't risk him as there's still a long way to go till the end of the season and he is a major influence in the team. Neck on block time, we should have the beating of Burnley without him, wrap him in cotton wool till the next game. SUNDERLAND midfielder Lee Cattermole is a major doubt to make his return from injury against Burnley on Saturday. Cattermole is yet to feature in 2015, due to knee and groin problems, and, despite upping his training regime this week, the game may still come too soon for him. “Lee is getting there slowly,” said boss Gus Poyet. “It is a tricky injury because it is the type where if you make a mistake and bring him back too early you will go backwards. “We’re making sure everything is spot on.” However, Adam Johnson and Wes Brown should feature against the Clarets after returning to training yesterday.
I fully agree mate. I haven't seen this new setup yet as I'm out of the country working, but I'm curious, how does Catts even fit into this new system? what role does he play?
Not sure myself mate but I have to say that his passing and vision have improved massively since Gus took over along with his discipline Ialthough Referees haven't realised that and he still gets booked for nothing!) I think he could play a position not so deep - although we will need him to cover into the full back positions with the wing back set up. Hope that's a bit clearer for you
the sooner he is back the better. such an influential player for us. Can't risk him if he isnt 100% though
Of the three similar 'holding' midfielders that we have (Rodders, Liam Birdcage and Catts) one of them is the best player that we've got (in any position), in my opinion, and the other two are, in my opinion, 'Championship' players, unfortunately. Maybe Rodders will prove me wrong (I certainly hope so) but Birdcage should be with a team like Brighton, and he certainly won't prove me wrong Hurry up Catts p.s. I hope that he really is injured, rather than this being an excuse for us trying to manage without him 'cos he's maybe 'moving on' in the next couple of days
Fully agree with this mate but just reading another article in the Echo got me wondering. It basically said that under the new 3-5-2 system the DM roll is redundant, but as i said before, i haven't seen it in action so can't really comment.
I'd play Rodders in Catts role for Burnley, with Larsson and Giacc. But I'm expecting Bridcutt for Catts and AJ being wedged central.
If he's still out for a couple of weeks, is it worth throwing him on for 5 mins, get a ban, then use that time to recover anyway? Just a thought
Use the suspension as recovery. I thought that exactly. No good if he gets crocked before the card though. A bit risky.
Being a cynical old sod,I'm wondering that Lee will be fit as soon as the transfer-window closes.Anyone else think on similar lines??
