... for our player of the season. I went for the obvious choice. http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2013/m...al&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=POSvotefb
Mine too, but only in the sense of my chosen player making overlapping runs down the right flank. Oh, I appear to have given away who I voted for. I just hope that him winning (if he does) doesn't encourage his agent to ask for more money.
Strange how Berbatov has never been a fan favourite anywhere he played, though he's always been a top scorer. He was top scorer for Tottenham twice, Man U once and now Fulham, but never a fan favourite. I'm sure we'd be down there, slugging it out with the likes of Wigan if it were not for Berbatov, but he didn't get my vote, either.
What is strange is that most people outside of Fulham would automatically assume Berbatov would be our player of the season, and would most likely not even heard of Riether. The German gets my vote also. GET HIM SIGNED JOL.
I agree that it's hard to find another credible candidate. I was a bit surprised to see Hangeland up there, to be honest, remembering how out of form he was in the first half of the season. Those of you who get to games more often than me, has his improvement since then warranted his inclusion? I thought the wording on his write-up and his prominence in the photo montage was a bit suspicious - 'One of the great surprises of Hangeland's Fulham career is that he's never won the player of the season award...' it's as if someone at the club is trying to give us a push in his direction. Maybe I'm being paranoid - the other write-ups are hardly less gushing.
To me, the improvement in Hangeland's performances are closely tied to Karagounis establishing himself; Baird & Sidwell gave our CBs little protection and this made Hangeland seem worse than he actually was. I said a month or two ago that our three players of the year had be Riether, Berbatov & Karagounis. Schwarzer has been much better over the second half of the season (is this also linked to our inability to hold on to the ball back in November?), so he deserves to be added to that list. Hangeland rounds out the list and I don't think there are any better candidates than him to be the 5th choice. However to me, Schwarzer & Hangeland are 4th/5th and Karagounis is 3rd (he didn't play the whole season). PotY should be a straight shoot out between performances (Riether) and goals (Berbatov); any other result would certainly raise questions. My last comment will reveal my choice: I have been frustrated and delighted with Berbatov in equal measure this season, while I have been nothing but impressed and delighted with Riether.
As has already been said, Hangeland's performances have certainly improved tenfold but his inclusion is basically to make up the numbers. I also would have suggested Dejagah, but it is only recently that he has begun to show us how good he can be. I'd have preferred if it was a top three with Riether, Berbatov and Schwarzer to be honest, the other two just haven't done enough to be considered.
Voted the same way. He does not get the profile, but has been the most consistenly good player all season. C O Y W
Official - announced, in the time honoured reverse order, during the walk-about after Sunday's game: * In third place..Sascha Riether * In second place .. Georgis Karagounis .. and the winner.... * the fan's player of the year....Dimitar Berbatov
The top three was right, even if I question the order. Evidently we have many more Greek fans than German ones!
Obvious player of the year. Also good to see Karagounis doing well, he was a fan favourite while he was here in Benfica.
Berbatov Obvious Player of the Season!!!! that's a joke. He probably got the vote from people who watch the 10 minutes we get from MOTD, and listen to the comments from Hansen, the Sky panel, ect, as he's the only Fulham player they know anything about. Don't get me wrong, Berbatov is a class player, but to say he's been our most consistent player is just totally wrong, he would get third place from me. Riether has been the best right-back we've had since Steve Finnan, good defender and great at creating chances (let's hope he signs for us). Schwarzer has saved 3 crucial penalties and pulled off great match winning saves, (but his kicking is still atrocious) he's also drop a few more clangers this season. Karagounis has done well, but inconsistent. The reason we haven't had a good season is because a lot our players haven't played well consistently through out the season, but for me Riether is the only player who has played well throughout the season. At least Riether got the Players Player of the Year. If you're a Benfica fan Good Luck on Wednesday.
I meant obvious because it's an online voting. Lots of people will vote for the most well-known name in the list. I am not a Benfica fan so I'm enjoying their suffering at the moment
