With two forwards and an attacking midfielder signed and rumours overs other midfielders (Bradley Johnson & Snodgrass) not much has been said about who Paul Lambert would bring in to boost our defence with the exception of Harry Redknapp saying we were interested in Steven Caulker. Therefore as not much has been mentioned about our defence, I would like to know who supporters would like to see signed to boost our defence or if they know of any well-known defenders linked with the club.
If everyone else thinks that then he will start to get desperate enough to take a pay cut Still think the experience he would bring would be useful to our young back 4
Would like J.Evans on loan now Utd have signed Jones. Wouldn't mind Upson on a free if wages were fairly low. This Swiss guy we are linked to looks quite interesting, although will probably move to Lazio. Would love a miracle from PL with one of the Brum CB's, the more likely of the two being Roger Johnson.
isn't it more that the rumour mill goes more for attacking players that are potentially more exciting, rather than linking players with defenders?
My personal (achievable) targets for CB would be as follows: Matt Mills (Reading) Wes Morgan (Forest) Luke Chambers (Forest) Jonathan Spector (West Ham) James Tomkins (West Ham) Liam Ridgewell (Birmingham) David Wheater (Bolton) This one is pretty unlikely as he hasn't been there long, but I really rate him - top player. Danny Collins (Stoke) Again, probably just out of our league. Matt Kilgallon (Sunderland) James Collins (Villa) Again, probably just out of our league. Dedryk Boyata (Man City)
I reckon Upson is probably anywhere between £40k p/w - £50k p/w? Would imagine somewhere like Spurs et.c would be a more likely destination....I think he's out of our league to be honest. Unless he still has a little bit of love for the area from when he lived here....ala Craig Bellamy
I don't think clubs like Spurs will be interested mate to be honest. He is on his way down but could still do a decent job for a year or so. All depends what could be agreed as you say.
Least not forget that he has turned out for Enland recently...saying that, so did James and he went to Bristol City. OK, see your point. I still think he is a good player and that there will be several teams going for his signature. Just feel his wages are too high for us.
I'm not sure there are many decent, affordable and available defenders out there - so let's just sign some more strikers and attacking midfielders and try to outscore the opposition. It nearly worked for Blackpool. It would definitely be entertaining.
Is he going to be hungry though? Lambert wont sign players who are comfortable in the premier league in my opinion. I think all our signings with be from the cream of the championship of possibly league 1 or young fringe players from PL sides (Vaughan). There are some very talented players in those leagues that for one reason or another have not had a shot at the big time. Lambert wants players who have something to prove. Not sure Upson fits into that catagory.
