Was just wondering if anybody had any idea if any more seats are going to be put in to Carrow Road for next season. I'm sure I read somewhere that McNally said if we reached the premiership the capacity would be expanded and I read on 606 the other day that it could be up to 32,000?

Is there any truth in this and if so

a)Where would the extra seats go
    b)What sort of cost
    c)How long would it take
d)Do you think its a good idea

I personally would love it as I think we could fill 32,000 reasonably regularly and it could only help the clubs long term finances and general atmosphere on match day.

Think D McNal said we'd be looking to expand after two consecutive seasons in the Prem (i.e. during season 3).

    a) Bowkett (I think) said that it would either be an extra tier on the GW City Stand, or a total rebuild of the GW City Stand, presumably to mirror the Jarold. I'd prefer an extra tier so the ground doesn't end up looking like a Keepmoat/CityOfCardiff/Walkers/Madejski/Ricoh/AnyOtherNewGround.

    b) As far as I remember building the Jarold was around 17m (correct me if I'm wrong). Taking into account inflation since then and other factors, I'd hazard a guess at around 22-25m? What do you reckon?

    c) Jarrold took about 3/4 of a season ish, if it was adding another tier I would guess that would probably take longer as that may well be a more complicated job? With any luck they could keep the current/bottom tier open for a little while before they had to take the roof off.

    d) I think it's a ****ing excellent idea.

  3. Yeah, think he did say 2 consecutive seasons before any major re-build was considered.

I think they extra seats this season was a good move for a small financial outlay, made tickets a little easier to come by for those that cannot make every game due to other commitments.

I also seem to recall £17m being the figure.

Would be hard to manage with a reduced capacity for a while though....

Just checked wikipedia, and apparently we're thinking about another tier on the Jarold! Hmmmm....

However, there is a quote from Bowkett saying the GW foundations will take another tier, but the 'sensible option' is a complete rebuild, taking 18-24 months. I think we'll need premier league stability before we consider that.

DH - But I don't want them to rebuild it, I want them to add another tier  If they do exentually chose to rebuild it, I'm holding you personally responsible. *Sulks*

I always thought the idea behind the Jarrold stand was to place a 2nd tier, that is why the current foundations were built the way they were - to allow a 2nd tier. So on that note, that is where I would expect the increased capacity if/when they do it. I can not see the logic behind a total rebuild though - seems a bizzare thing to say when the foundations to cope exist.

Could we fill 32,000 seats - in the PL I am sure we would unless maybe against teams with very small away following (Wigan & Blackburn instantly spring to mind). If we came back to the Championship I think we would struggle to fill it except for the big games.

  7. I reckon we could still fill 30k in the championship, given the opportunity....

I'm sure any new corporate boxes installed would get snatched up pretty quickly too.

I like the view over the top of the city stand :)

I think that McNally said that the current stadium had potential for a further 800-1000 seats in addition to the 1000 installed last year in the existing stands/footprint. I can't see anywhere for these seats to go other than a new row at the bottom of the City or Barclay stands or in a infill in front of the Hotel.
This could happen this summer, not sure.

However, for a major expansion, i.e. a new tier he said it would take 2 consectutive years in the PL to even consider it. I like the idea of a new tier on the City stand going over Carrow Road behind it.

Not to do with expansion, but I personally would like to see new, jarrold stand style roofs over the rest of the stadium to get rid of the 4 pillars that restrict the view.

They were on about adding more seats to other areas like they did with the River End. I agree with Canaries Soccer about adding another tier to the City stand, plus the road is situated so close to the stand itself I can't see them building another new Jarrold type stand, it wouldn't make sense especially since you have to climb a 6ft high wall to get onto Koblenz Avenue from Carrow Road. Rumour has it the Jarrold can have an extra tier too, but that would cost some serious change.

On a second note I could shoot the ****ing w*nker (probably Neil Doncaster) who decided to build that hotel in the corner of the ground.

Would cost a bomb and you're already significantly in debt.

No debt now, promotion saw to that. Back in the black after what seems like forever! Obviously it's slightly more complicated than that but the bottom line is that this one season in the Premiership wipes our debt out and returns us to a healthy position.

20 million they reckon, we're being run like a business now though which we failed at before. We had a director of football and a chairman who lost the club money, two of the biggest clowns ever to of being given roles at this club employing the likes of Grant, Roeder & Gunn as managers, expensive loanee's, bad players on high wages you name it we were going nowhere.

A lot of our success is down to how the club has been run off the pitch by David McNally and Alan Bowkett, if there is expansion it will be done carefully.

Cheers for the info guys. I can see us doing as Sir Arthur said and adding the extra 1000 over the summer where we can.

Loiner - do you reckon Leeds would consider removing some seats from Elland Road to improve the atmosphere, considering you rarely sell out????

Canariessoccer if I remember rightly the jarrold took so long because they found roman/saxon/ancient? remains and the county councils archaeology department got involved for about 5 months and stopped the building.
both the jarrold and the city stand were built with foundations for two tier stands just in case, so I dont think an expansion would take so long.
