2mil Loan deal confirmed on BBC sport, with view to 17mil permanent move. Incredible signing for them
Shows how Liverpool paid far too much for him. I thought West Ham were in debt...found some money under the mattress!!
Lol brilliant. Another big, thuggish striker to go in their team. Cole Vaz Te Maiga Carroll Maynard Baldock (bid accepted from Bristol City) Allardyce usually only plays the one up front too. Weird. Baldock and Maynard are 2 of the biggest wastes of money.
So do I. But West Ham seem to just sweep their arm across the shelf (so to speak), putting these players in their basket with no intention of using them. It really is pointless and damaging for club finances too I would imagine.
I think Carroll will excel under their direct style. For all that has been said about him, he is still a great player (which he showed at the Euro's). It was clear to everyone that he would never fit in at Liverpool, but I fully expect him to score up to 20 goals this season at west ham.
Love to know what state their finances are in - we all knew they were £120m in debt when the new owners took over a couple of years ago, they bought heavily last year and again this year looks like being the same. They must have a massive squad as they dont seem to sell many either The owners when in charge at Birmingham were not renown for big buys but they seem to have the cheque book out all the time at West Hoof Cant see how they are sustainable personally - could they be the next Pompey?
That's west ham safe then. I think Carroll would be a cracking signing for almost every bottom half PL team, but for a team like west ham with Big Sam's style of play, that's a near wonder signing.
still astounds me to think how much liverpool paid for him! what did he get 19 goals in the championship (?). Still should be good for whu but again still dont think he is worth 19 million
How the **** was he in any way great at the Euros? He scored a good goal, but apart from that he was average like the rest of our squad.
To call him great is to do a disservice to Ronaldo and Messi. THEY are great players. Carroll is a potentially above average top flight pro who may have two or three really good seasons. Think a slightly better James Beattie/Kevin Davies/Peter Crouch/Emile Heskey. He might score 20 goals one season (as an exception, I see him as more of a 10-15 goal a season man), but he'll never cut it at a top club, or dominate at international level (however, given the paucity of talented English players, he'll probably get 50 caps, although a lot of those could be as an 'impact' sub). Could be a big signing for West Ham though, has the potential to be the difference between survival and relegation.
Can't see him as a top scorer in the PL, though he may suit WHU. He would have his place in most teams when you are fighting for a goal at the end of a match, but wouldn't start him for Saints.
Clearly you didn't read any red tops during the Euros. Carroll was horrendously bad all year for Liverpool, has a couple of good games at the end (notably against Cardiff) and is average in Euros apart from a good header, and suddenly he's one of the best strikers in football again. That's how the national media, and by extension the British public, form opinions.
Big signing for them and bit of a blow for would get relegated anyway, with the signings they are making it seems even more unlikely. Really hoping for a good signing this week.
He was decent in the Euros, didn't play much but when he did he held the ball up well and scored a great header, couldn't really have done much more. He's quite unprofessional though so I do wonder about the mental strength of their squad, they've got some very immature and unprofessional players in there.
