Quite annoying! He could have done with a break at the end of the season before pre-season training began, he's already had a couple of injuries while he has been with us and knowing our luck he might pick up another one with England. The tournament itself only lasts until 25 June, and that's if England even get that far. But it is still quite annoying that he has been called up, especially considering he is now a full England international. It must be said that this squad is only a provisional 40-man squad which will have to be cut down to 23 by 1 June, but I can't see Stuart Pearce chucking Carroll out of his squad. What are your thoughts? Will this benefit Carroll at all?
It will keep him sharp if he does not get injured but he will more than likely miss part of the pre-season to rest and that is really when we wanted him. Getting used to the pre-season rigors, meeting the new players, getting back to the pass and move style. If you have ever been a player, you don't turn down chances to play and improve, that's how I look at it. I know there are risks but he comes away unscathed he will have more matches under his belt and be even more comfortable in the next season I would think.
It will keep im ticking over as he's had a long lay off with his injury, hopefully he wont get injured, I can see us buying a striker (noting amazing, mind) in the summer to cover such an issue as N'Gog isn't up to it
I understand your concerns Pony, It seems a little silly going back down a level after making your debut in the seniors. I wonder if that will bother him? Cannot happen very often. However as Bluffcity has said, he hasnt played a massive amount so it might actualy benefit him to get sharp and get a few goals under his belt so he can steamroll the beggining of next season. I just hope he gets some sort of break, lucky there are only a few games left of this season.
I think it will do him good. He's basically had a three month lay-off anyway,as he was unavailable form late December until March. He won't be as jaded as some other players. If he plays and comes back sharp by the time the new season starts, then good. The 21 championships may mean that he's raring to go into the new season.I reckon Damien Comolli and Kenny have highlighted the need for another striker anyway to play in the Europa league as it seems likely it will be us and not Spurs that will be playing in it next season.
I think it can only benefit him. He's had a long time out injured, this will help with his fitness. Given its England we'll be out in the quarters on pens so he'll get a break before pre-season training starts.
Hopefully he'll have a great tourny and come back better than ever. European tournaments are a bit of a learning curve for many players - some seem to lose a lot of confidence whilst others.. e.g. Gyan, Hernandez etc.. make their marks and seem to only go up from there. The only problem I see is long term injuries, but then the likelihood of that happening is small considering his build it'd have to be one hefty challenge. We can cope with him getting small niggly injuries as I'm sure Kenny and the fitness team at Melwood will be able to get him fit and recovered before the start of the season.
I can see the positives and negatives of this. A positive is that it will keep him sharp over the summer. It would also help him build up his fitness. A negative is that he could get injured and miss the start of the season. Time will tell however.
Yeah I can see both sides of the argument. It would just be our luck though if he got a broken leg or something and was out until Christmas. Hope England do well though if he's going so he comes back uplifted.
