Something very odd about this mornings Liverpool Not606. No moaning about Carroll. That might be because the lads pulled you out of the smelly recently and for once, his team mates might appreciate his game is 80% his head and 20% his left foot.In addition he creates and assists for fun . Not the lads fault Kenny paid a ridiculous sum for him , thereby ranking up the pressure for him to score hat fulls of goals. So, don't be so quick to slag him off in future.
No doubt that Carroll has improved immensely over the past few months and is chipping in with a couple of goals. Do I think he is a good player - yes I do. Do I think he is the right player for LFC? - No I don't. I rather see the fast, intelligent striker like Fowler, Owen, Torres which I believe fits our style. Carroll is definately a useful player to have in our team so I wouldnt want to get rid of him, he's still young and is likely to improve.
Kenny wasn't pat of the negotiations so didn't pay a ridiculous sum for him. Carroll was signed at the end of the transfer window when we had no striker and every club chairman was ready to try to milk the new Americans in the league who had money to spend and a need to spend it, We could've paid £25m for Darren Bent under those conditions but that would've been short-term panic-buying and irresponsible stewardship in a rebuilding season. It was also a signing most Premier League managers said privately at the time was a great one, what with the post-World Cup noise over young English players being all the rage at the time. Note the media have gone coyly quiet over that now they're pushing for Scholes to be brought back for England. Reliable as ever, the media's flop follows their flip as Christmas single follows X Factor final. So you, sir, are the one being ridiculous for wasting your money buying into it.
No need to apologize- we gave an honest appraisal of his performances at the time. When he seemed ineffectual, we said so- it's our right as fans to do so. We can see a great improvement, so we say so.
I have nothing against Carroll. Sure I hate the fee we paid but DC paid that and he's been sacked. My issue was, at first, that he didn't train hard and put the effort on the pitch but that has changed and he clearly puts in the effort now. So now I have no issue with him. Unfortunately though I still don't think he will ever be right for us and be a key player for us if we want to pushing for 4th spot and up P.S It was most of your lot doing the slagging off with comments like "wouldn't take him back if we were paid to!"
OP,Carroll(due to the money you got for him)is responsible for your league position, yet the pure hate and bile aimed at him at our game at Newcastle was shameful and disgusting.
He's done well in recent games. More importantly he's scored two important late winning goals. Thats got to give him some real confidence, a bit of hero status around the training ground for his winner against Everton. He should take that confidence into the next game and keep doing it.
I remember during the time of Rafa when Liverpool use to score late late goals. The player are starting to understand one another...Kenny said they are finished articles, but work in progress. I would take that.
No apology to Carroll is required. The lad has started to answer his critics by scoring important goals - that's what matters. He's always going to miss chances (as does every striker) and he'll continue to get the "what a waste of money" chants from opposing fans but he is now starting to give his reply! On a different tack. It was really good to see Liverpool end the match by keeping the ball in the opponents half. Too often we have tried to keep it at the back or in our own half - and its cost us!
you laugh but it probably is! That goal has now put us in to the FA Cup Final which (due to Chelsea's league position) means we now have a better placing in next seasons Europa league (not mentioning the small boost in prize money from being a finalist and the share in gates) because of the later start to the season we can now take our better players to the US, spend more time with sponsors and properly reap it's commercial benefits - this would have been limited if we has the earlier start to the season! This is also the 2nd last minute goal he has scored, this will increase his commercial presence. Ask most football fans - regardless of who they support who scored Liverpool's goals on saturday and they'll say "Carroll did but I'm not sure about the other one" this the same about the Blackburn game. Carroll has finally made his presence known for a good reason and because of this people will start willing him to continue, he will probably end up a bit of a cult hero like Lucas
One of the players (can't remember who) said Carroll had started staying back in training. Which is a massive improvement and shows he wants to make it here. Any one who puts 100% effort in to succeeding gets my full confidence and backing, and thankfully the hard work he's put in over the last few months is starting to pay off. And if he scores the winner in the final it'll be £35m well spent.
I have been pretty harsh to be fair- but I still need to see more of him playing well. This week has been encouraging though.
Good to see not all Liverpool fans jump the gun. Anyone can see hes got much more to do but as someone who laughed at him none stop all season, I will continue to laugh until he does it for the whole season. Hell some championship player scored 2 goals in a game the other week, he hadnt scored for 4 years before that....
Not all about scoring goals. I seem to remember Michael Owen back in his profilic liverpool years saying that Heskey was his prefered playing partner and the reason for alot his goals - at a time when Heskey was heavily knocked for failure to score. Good old 'hard working Emile'. Carroll may not get the goals all the time, but him being in team gives us positive performances and more wins than when he doesn't play. He's doing something right. If Suarez was a bit more clinical, or we had the midfielders running into the box like Maxi does, we wouldn't even be discussing Carroll's usefullness. For 35mill you might expect an all rounder of a striker, but his performances apart from the goals have been steadily improving all season. It doesn't matter who gets the goals as long as the team gets them. Example - all Skrtel's goals from set pieces this season typically come from the fact the opposition defense is more concerne with watching Carroll than Skrtel, leaving him open for attacking the ball.
Carroll looks **** when he comes on for the last 10 minutes of the game. When he's started the match, I can't really think of an occasion where he's been noticeable poor. He's one of those players who needs 10-15 minutes to get into the game. He isn't an impact sub. And too often he's been used as one. His ability isn't the issue.
You get more than that, but that isn't the point anyway. If you want to press the issue: Third Round Proper winners (32) £67,500 Fourth Round Proper winners (16) £90,000 Fifth Round Proper winners (8) £180,000 Sixth Round Proper winners (4) £360,000 Semi-Final winners (2) £900,000 Final winners (1) £1,800,000 So, about £3.5m in total. But 900k for the semi, which he won us with that goal.
