on BBC a guy on twitter said this " Choosing not to be on standby is like saying you won't play if you're not first choice. Carrick needs to change his attitude. "

many people have been saying that by Carrick, to be honest i don't blame Carrick, yes its always proud to be playing for England but sometimes it can get frustrating too, he can be the best english consistent midfielder and still finds himself on the bench all the time behind Barry who has been inconsistent, even Downing gets more chance then him, a player who has been really really poor for Liverpool got more chance then he did in the past 2 years. That is frustrating and i understand Carrick's decision.

At the moment no one could disagree, this season no other england mid have been in a better form and more consistant then Micheal Carrick and yet they always seem to get ahead of him for England, it must of hurt him alot thats why he made that decision.how did Milner do this season? most of hsi time he spend on the city bench and yet he'll get ahead of Carrick in the starting line up, thats frustrating.

This is why England hasn't been doing well in recent years because they waste talent like Carrick, Even we're wasting the talent of richards, he's more reliable defending then G Johnson

player's like Downing doesn't deserve to be in the 23-man squad, IMO even Joe Cole has done better this season. i thought Sturridge should be picked ahead of Downing, he's far more of a threat then Downing.

Carrick's frustration at the lack of opportunities is understandable. But it's also understandable that if a player demands a starting place he cannot be included in the squad. Plus all of this is supposed to have happened before Roy's appointment so it's not his fault, previous managers have created this problem.

I don't care if you're the 8th choice midfielder or 1st choice..if you are called up to represent your country you should go.

I seem to recall United fans being less than impressed when Carragher withdrew from representing England.

That kind of patriotism is extremely outdated. If you're dicked about by the national side whilst the likes of Barry are just waltzing in to the squad, **** '.

Good on Carrick for telling England where to go. They have never shown an interest in the most technically gifted midfielder in the country despite a decade long decline in english football standards at the national level.

Carrick should retire and get another 5 years out of himself.

I'm fairly sure he wouldn't have demanded a place. More he assumed he wouldn't even get a kick, which is what has happened before. Their loss is our gain as he'll be well rested when he comes back. Looking at it logically though, i reckon he'd have been a shoe in for the starting eleven now Barry is gone.

Talent-wise Carrick most definitely should be there but I can understand Hodgson on this one, I wouldn't pick a player who thinks he can dictate the conditions of being in the squad. Either you're 100% in or you're out, there's no third option. That said, it's great news from a United perspective, he'll have some time off and be fresh for next season. Realistically Carrick might as well retire from internationals completely, he's never going to get the chance he should

agreed, even if carrick was available and if he's on a better form then other english mids and on a fantastic form, he still won't get in the england squad. Like i said England is all about big name player's.

Have I touched a nerve? You sound more and more like little Nolhman everyday lol

Ok, back to the article, I do not like Carrick in the united midfield. Sure with a great player next to him, fine, but currently no

I don't blame Carrick. He is a very good player, very underrated. So is Barry, he's had an excellent season for City

Barry is even slower than Carrick. Isn't he still chasing Özil?
