Middlesbrough have sacked head coach Michael Carrick after two-and-a-half years in charge. The former England midfielder, 43, took over at the Championship side in October 2022 for his first role in management. He guided the team to a play-off finish in 2022-23 but they have missed out on the top six in the past two campaigns. Carrick's assistants Jonathan Woodgate and his brother Graeme Carrick have also left the club.
It’ll be interesting now to see if they press on and make the play offs or if they’ll drop off a bit. I think for clubs like Boro the continuity is often a blessing - even if they miss out in the short term a couple of times
Don’t think they’re very happy (players) from what I was told. They’ll need to get the appointment spot on or they may end up like us!
A bit like Rosenior and Liam Delap, Carrick was badly hampered by Ben Doak’s injury and couldn’t get enough of a tune out of his remaining squad.
The Whittaker signing was really poor. Particularly as everyone could see his levels had dropped off a cliff. I always felt he was overrated and his goals return masked a player that didn’t offer an awful lot else. His start to the season showed this…then Middlesbrough blew £6million (£2 million add ons). Then again they brought in Ryan Giles when all the evidence advised against it.
With Sunderland and L**ds up and Newcastle going for world domination we are now the smoggies biggest rivals.
I was the designated driver on most of our visits to Boro, and often took the chance to actually walk around the town centre area. I've seen far worse places. That said I'm of the opinion everywhere has places worth seeing, if you can actually be bothered to look. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
