I was going to put this on the 'General Football Thread' but I thought this great man deserved his own.

One of the greatest players in the greatest ever team has died, younger posters may never have heard of Carlos Alberto but he was part of the magnificent Brazil side of 1970.
I was was only a young whipper snapper at the time but that team made me fall in love with the beautiful game, the iconic goal that Carlos scored in the World Cup final in 1970 will live with me forever.

R.I.P. Carlos <rose><rose><rose>

I’m probably not alone in thinking that sometimes I’m sick of the modern game.

The spoiled millionaires with their wags and their Jags. The corrupt officials of the governing bodies that should really be taking us forward.

The dodgy referees, the managers who should have had it all, but blew it because of greed.

The damned agents who earn more in one transaction than all of us combined in our lifetime.

Then I see this footage again, and realise, for better or for worse, I’m hooked, and there’s nothing I can do about it.

RIP Carlos, and thanks for the memories. <ok>

I have just watched this again, and at the end you can click on highlights for the whole match. Did so, and was reminded of how great Pele was, scored one and made two. His headed goals hang time would make me believe he had a hovercraft strapped to his body, and his totally unselfish header down for the third showed why he was so great. All, or nearly all, modern forwards would have taken the selfish option .

That's because Brazil always played the "team" game.

He certainly was but even the great man didn't get it right every time, what an attempt though .......
