Tomorrow it's the beginning of October. Cargill has been 'with' us for a month - and we still have no news about when he might be fit ! We're talking about a young man - a professional footballer who wasn't fit a month ago - who isn't fit a month later - and of whom the fans have no idea if or when he might be fit ! Quite frankly - the situation isn't good enough. I find it incredible that Cargill wasn't fit in the first place. What has he been doing in the summer break ? At his age ( I believe it to be 21 ), he should be able to 'party' every night and still get up early to do a FULL day's work the next day - I did ! ...................... if he had no underlying injury when we 'acquired' his nonservices, then I think it scandalous that he still isn't fit............... if he did have a pre-existing injury when we agreed to his loan move - then somebody at GFC really needs to give the fans an explanation as to why we have taken on unfit and / or injured players ( especially in the light of the Jamie O'Hara situation ). My 'citicism' is not levelled at the players who have unfortunately sustained injuries that have sidelined them - but in Cargill's position, the indication was that he was 'merely' unfit.
It has been said that we only signed him when we did due to a lack of a loan window - If there was still one he probably wouldn't be here
He is still being paid by bournmouth until he is fit enough to play. Was only signed as we cannot sign any players including loan players till january. Can only sign out of contract players. Was not expected to play for at least a month.
gioblues - (I'm not wishing to upset you ) - but my questions remains unanswered. We cannot wait ONE month for a player to get it - Cargill's absolutely no use to us -- and after yet another game without a clean sheet - we are desperate for defenders who can defend - even Barry Fuller looked good - and, at times, Barcham made us look stupid- although not as stupid as Donnelly achieved without any help
To be fair, I don't think the defenders are the problem in terms of quality. Deji and Ehmer are 2 of the best players this season. Konchesky looks easily good enough. Lack of cover at RB is a concern. What we lack in my opinion is someone to lead the defence (and the team). We let El-Abd go stupidly without attempting to get him in. On the Cargill front, apparently he is meant to be available either for Oldham or the week after but I honestly don't think it will make a difference.
That was a really good game today, Jed started by leaving Hess and wright on the bench, a master stroke with so few fit senior players available. Someone with a suspicious mind might think that Hess was being forced into submitting a transfer request, after all with a long contract it would be expensive to pay him off. Jed decided to go with 3 at the back, after all it's worked for us, erm, let me think, when was it, well he must think it's a good system, otherwise he wouldn't use it, would he? so the game starts and it isn't long before we injure another player, then the brilliance of Jed really shows through as he sends on his secret weapon, after only a short time he plays the perfect defence splitting through ball for Poleon to go through one on one with the keeper, now I know it was our keeper and our goal, but you have to admit the technique was premiership quality. After going a goal behind, most managers would be panicked into changing the system, but Jed stood firm, what a great idea to confuse the opposition by persisting with the master plan, yes I know the system wasn't working but that's the beauty of the plan, no one was expecting us to carry on playing the same. My point was proven, when even before reaching half time we had succeeded in giving away our 10th penalty this season, surely no other team could boast such a fantastic record. Jed gave the players their half time talk and the results were instant, we ran around kicked the ball, and at one point almost had a shot on target, this team are really going places (4 places lower than at 3 o'clock) and the undertaker (dam spell checker that should read Jed) is leading them from the front.
Why do I bother ? I also enjoyed the game ! - well the first 4 minutes - I thought it was a competition in kicking a ball out of the ground ! ( twice, already ). This might be a family friendly forum - but there is only one word to describe what I saw - and I don't mean manure ! I have seen much excrement from Gills in my time - but the quality I witnessed at AFC W was as good as some of the worst it has been my misfortune to have seen. It was dire. grumpygit -you're wrong about J E 'leading' the team - I was directly behind him throughout the game - didn't hear him ONCE. And we have no leader on the pitch. It was like watching a pub team on a Sunday morning. - Well I can do that by walking a few minutes to my 'local ground.' I don't need to endure nightmare journies and much expense for the privilege. Supporting and following The Gills has been in my blood for many years. I hate it if I have to miss a game - but - I'm not sure how much more I'm willing to put up with in terms of a manager (and above) who are doing a damned good impression of being clueless. Why do we sign players who are injured Why do we sign players who are unfit Why do we sign up millions of midfielders Why do we not sign players for positions that desperately need cover Why do we persist on putting players 'out of position' Why do we persist with formations that do not work Why do we sign up bags of cement Why do we have players who are out of favour Why do we not have leadership on the pitch Why do we not have leadership off the pitch Please feel free to add to the list - I can't be bothered ......... I'm too busy studying the venues of teams in L2 for 2017 - 18
To refer back to the original point, Cargill should be available for the Oldham game according to Kent Online. As previously stated though it's more the midfield that is the problem although Pask had a torrid time yesterday trying to deal with their number 9. Whoever thought it was a good idea to let our slightest defender to mark their big man up front needs their head examining
