Gutted! I couldn't make it today and going by the commentry, neither could Barnsley even though they scored three. I know 3pts is what matters but last season proved how goal difference can play it's part. If you score 8 in 2 games, you expect your goal difference to increase by more than 1?
Saying that though, I can't really criticise as I wasn't there so will be interesting to see the views from those of you who were there today <ok>

I thought Macca run the show for us, my man of the match.

i was impressed by the two centre backs (turner & hudson), mason when he came on and i thought cowie took his goal excellently. turner was strong as usual, we have a good base to build from at the back with two players who rarely get beaten in the air, and have good experience at this level.

shame to lose miller but mason came on and caused barnsley problems with his running and movement, though his finishing in front of goal was in general quite poor. mcphail kept things simple in the centre of the field but it must be said barnsley fell apart in the second half and we had a shed load of chances we didnt take, mason missing, earnshaw towards the end.

the goals we conceded were lucky, to say that there are defensive frailties like the guy said on bbc 5 live is a bit rich considering the first one was a deflection and the second another fortunate goal. its fair to say the defence hardly gave barnsley a sniff <ok>

That's nine goals conceded in three games and a shockingly bad Barnsley team that could have scored five.I feel for our boys up front. That said three points in the bag.

yep, apologies i forgot about the peterborough game mid week i was watching champions league <laugh> but that said, as malky stated on the radio its not the fact that we conceded 3 we need to worry about, more the fact that each goal was unfortunate to concede. the first goal you cant legislate for, the other 2 came when we were 5-1 up, now if there is such thing as a good time to concede its then.

barnsley were awful, and we should have got more, but i find it hard to focuss on the negatives when we created chance after chance after chance and should have scored more than 5, though the result was soured by a combination of bad luck and bad defending in the last 15 minutes or so <ok>

was listening on the radio in the car but had to leave it with 10 mins to go as my daughter was in a show jumping competition. Walked from the car with a smile on my face with the score at 5-1.

Slightly disappointed to just find out that we let in 2 late goals. Injuries up front, but we are still scoring. To concede 7 goals in 2 games is not good though. I thought with MMs philosiphy we'd have seen a lot of 0-0 or 1-0 games.

We need to do something about our defense!

I couldnt decide if Barnsley were a complete shambles or our movement and passing made them look that way. We did look sharp from the off today and I thought Miller was going to make up for lost time. Im impressed with Mason's movement and running everytime I see him although as said above his finishing could use some improvement. It was good to see McPhail back and I believe he did make a difference to the team. Neat and tidy little passes allied to the clever movement seemed to pay dividends. It really is no exageration to say we could easily have had 10.

To the defence. I really couldnt see how Barnsley were going to score yet they got 3. Elements of luck, maybe but it should not be happening. It wasn't happening so much a few weeks ago was it?

I have to agree that McPhail for me was man of the match. When we went 5-1 up we were in complete control and the midfield were running the show. The passing was excellent and reminded me of how we played a couple of seasons ago. When McPhail went off the game changed. Okay it was his first league start of the season and he maybe got tired, but we were not the same team after that. I'm very fond of Earnie as many are but he's not the player he was. Mason did well and the goal will hopefully give him the confidence to stick a couple more in the net. I think he needs more game time and confidence. McNaughton was again superb and one header from defence where he had to wrap his silver nugget around the ball to clear was brilliant. The rest of the team played very well against what was I agree a poor Barnsley side but if we are to kick on this season we still need some tall up front and another wide midfielder. All in all a very entertaining afternoon. BLUEBIRDS!!
