Here is to no injuries and a good work out for both sides Sad to see Charlton down in L1. Hoping to see you get back up next season!
Cheers pal! Was down in Cardiff for your play off defeat (not at the game, but in a certain ''club'' on St Mary St). Afterwards you were still in good spirits- but that might have had more to do with the, ahem, establishment Think you guys made the same mistake as us in our failed promotion of '10- too many loans! Sure Malky will improve on last year though- and think tonights game will be a good one, with lots of new players on display for both sides.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We've hit the bar and the post but still trail 0-1
Totally agree. That's three matches in succession we have conceded a goal by losing possession near our own penalty area. That's what comes of all this "tippy-tappy, use the ball constructively and find a man" stuff. All well and good in the other side's half, but as soon as the ball is own your own half you should "hoof" it. Doesn't matter where really, but if over the stands that would give Elliott time to waddle back to his goal-line he if has strayed outside the goal area. At least Parky understood the basics like that.
Eddie, three? The game I watched against Welling we won 3-0? With regard to Mr Parkinson, yes I always really enjoyed our defenders 'hoofing' the ball up the pitch so the better opposition could get it and then score against us ahh, how I miss those days.
Hoof the ball up field. Lose it immediately. Wonder why we're under so much pressure. Booting the ball upfield is only a good option when under immediate pressure. But like you point out..Parky got the team playing hoofball, and under his tenure did we go up or down the football league?
Exactemente, Powell is putting together a squad of players capable of passing other teams off the park, and that often entails building from the back. There are risks, certainly, but its infinitely preferable to hoofball to an isolated striker who can do nothing with it.
Playing his style of football with players not suited to it and nothing to play for for most of it. But nice of you to ignore that key detail. And I really don't see the problem. The team are still gelling together and adapting to this style. People learn from mistakes and these mistakes happen in pre-season. If it starts happening in the league you have the right to complain. I for one would much rather see the mistakes ironed out now than when it matters.
Red flag, maybe you should tell that Brighton not to build from the back because it obviously doesn't work....oh wait..
There is no way that we would have finished 5th if Parky had still been in charge, the team's weaknesses were becoming apparent and confidence was shot. Powell is not to blame for the poor end to the season.
