bloody hell!! after sky ruined the jolly boys outing in blackpool..we re arranged to go round bristol after cardiff instead! now it will be a tuesday night as well! bad times all round
Didn't we have to rearrange Cardiff away in the promotion season of 2007/08 because they went to Wembley? It's an omen, I tells ya!!
FA Cup 5th Round is the same day as the Brighton game, so if we beat Crawley that one will be rearranged as well. I'll be doubly pissed off with the FA Cup giving us extra games for injuries/suspensions if I end up missing an extra league game because of the cup run and then our paper thin squad (defence) has to handle the backlog of league games. Full FA Cup schedule (the replay dates are all free at the moment but they're generally about 10 days later): 18th Feb - Round 5 (Brighton home) 17th March - 1/4 Finals/Round 6 (Palace away) 14th April - Semi Finals (Watford away) 5th May - Final I really hope some L1 side gets a flukey run of fixtures and makes it to the Final. They're supposed to play the FA Cup Final and the last round of L1 games on the same day. What happens if Huddersfield are 1 point ahead of Sheff Wed with 1 game left but Huddersfield are in the FA Cup Final when they're supposed to play at the same time?
I only picked up on it because I have a record of QPR, Huddersfield, and Dunfermline fixtures alongside ours in my spreadsheet. please log in to view this image I use it for sorting out travel and knowing at a glance where I'm going to be each weekend. Was more use when we were in PL with a lot of weekend games, it was actually cheaper that first season to have a season ticket at Hull and Huddersfield than to pay on the day (plus free games at Dunfermline).
Why do they keep messing with traditions? Champions League games on a Saturday, FA Cup finals before the season finishes and now on the same day. FFS if it ain't broke... Also just out of interest Ricardo, what's your association with QPR and the 'Udders?
The FA Cup Final is the week after we finish, and the week before the PL finishes (PL games will need rearranging, but as it's not the last game it doesn't matter so much). This year it's to do with getting the international players an early release so they can have a break before the Euros. It'll be a case of the FA Cup Final being that first weekend in May, the PL finishes the next weekend, the weekend after is the CL Final and the Championship Playoff Final, and the weekend after that (Bank Holday weekend) is the L1 and L2 playoff finals. The FAC, PL, and CL have to finish on seperate weekends, and because the Championship Final is earlier than the other 2 we need to finish our season a week earlier to fit the semis in. Plus TV wise they get the Championship finale one weekend, then the FA Cup and Championship semis the next weekend, the PL finale (Sunday) and L1/L2 semis (2 Saturday, 2 Sunday) the next, the one after is CL and Championship Finals, and then they stick the L1/L2 Finals on when everyone is getting warmed up for the Euros. Huddersfield it goes back to the old official message boards, cutting a long story short I met up with a few of their fans during the D3 and L1 times because one of the girls on their board her dad was a City fan, went to Cardiff with them for their playoff final, stopped at one of their's when we played them the next season (a 4-0 win for them and they were the ones getting annoyed about the football by the end of the day). When we got to the PL and had Sunday games it was a good opportunity to do double headers, their game on the Saturday, a night out, through to Hull on the Sunday for our game. I think with midweek games as well i got to 10 of their games that season. Not done so many since I stopped working because I've gone from £7k disposable (as in after all bills, not the official meaning) to £2k. QPR it's back to when we got to when we were first in Championshipp and the chanting. The official boards were quite easy to play around with the urls so I was just updating them on stuff, and along with a couple of their fans who'd been at the game setting the record straight about what had actually happened, including the afters in the car park. Again just got to know a few of them and have stuck around on a fans forum since then. Things like Fulham away in the 2nd season in PL, we were the Monday night game and they had home games Saturday and Tuesday so I made a weekend of it (sleeper train home on Tuesday night). Also had a couple where it was them at Barnsley on a Saturday and us at home on the Sunday.
Dont worry as Huddersfield are out of the FA Cup now. Only one from Stevenage v. Notts Co. will make it through and Swindon I fear will lose @ Lesta. So its Sevenage away then for Hull City in round 5.
I know what you mean re.Blackpool But the change has worked well for me as me and the wife will be taking in the Accrington v. Port Vale game on the saturday now as its a ground ive still to do. Nice when things work out for a change. As for Cardiff....THANK YOU SO MUCH ANTHONY GARDNER. Not only have you cost your club a Wembley Final you have also cost Hull City fans a weekday(tuesday night) down in The Valleys. The Ghost of Anthony Gardners times as a Hull City player continues to haunt the club. At least the players will get a weekend off. I also think that SKY may have an influence of when the Cardiff fixture is played. It might be kept back for late April as who knows where both clubs will be by then. Plus, the Brighton home game is also possibly in need of a mid-week date. Success does have its price.
Did you not read the bit where I said I can't afford to have a life anymore? Any old team involved in the promotion/relegation battle will do.
If that happened, I don't know how they will rearrange it. The football league will not want to move a full set of fixtures whilst the FA won't want to move its cup final. Unless some gentlemens agreement made between them back in August that the set of league games would all move back to either the midweek or the Saturday after the cup at 12:30 (to allow possible Tv coverage).
They could end up moving a lot of games that way. Taking it as a team in 2nd in the Cup Final. Even assuming the title was well won the 2nd and 3rd's games would need rearranging. 3rd and 4th in the league have home advantage for the 2nd leg of the playoffs, and opponents are determined by their position in the table. Unless 3rd place was guaranteed to finish 3rd or above you'd need to rearrange the games for the other playoff teams so that they couldn't "choose" their opponents by fixing a game. You've now got 5 or 6 teams needing their games postponed. What if one of those is playing a relegation threatened team? You're then looking at another 1, 2, or more teams needing their games postponed to avoid any "unfairness" of teams knowing they only need a draw because the others have played when if it had been played beforehand they'd have been going out for a win to be sure.
The following week will be the first legs of the playoffs won't they? If they delay the playoffs by a week they'll be running too tightly to arrange fixtures and distribute tickets for all 3 games. (two semi and one final)
Oh flip - I have booked a weekend away in Worcestershire when the quarter finals are due to take place. I can see me having to come home for the day unless there are some Midlands/North West teams still in it and I can take in an away leg. Mind you, all the ties will be on the TV so lord knows what times they will be played! PS - you will note the quiet confidence that we will get through Round 4 and, indeed, Round 5!
