Cardiff will land Brazilian striker Willyan from Beira Mar, as part of a new relationship with the Portuguese club.

According to Record, the Portuguese daily, Willyan will sign for Cardiff this week for a fee thought to be around £1.5m, but could be loaned straight back.

The switch will kick off a link with Beira Mar, who currently play in the Segunda Liga, with Cardiff owner Vincent Tan seemingly keen to invest in Portuguese football.

The 20-year-old forward, full name Willyan Da Silva Barbosa, has scored five goals in 29 league outings since arriving permanently from Torino in August.

Torino had been keen on resigning the youngster but he looks set for south Wales as a result of the clubs’ new deal, with Cardiff also said to be best placed to sign Beira Mar's exciting midfielder Pite, who is a target for Benfica.

According to Sport Witness we have signed him:

Willyan da Silva Barbosa. Known simply as Willyan for football purposes, is all set to sign up with Cardiff City. Portuguese newspaper Record report on Tuesday that the 20 year old Brazilian striker will finalise a move to Wales on Wednesday. Cardiff City will pay €2m for the player but may loan him back to his current club Beira-Mar for another season after the current campaign.

Torino tried to sign the player in January, just months after he made the move to Portugal, but they were knocked back and Willyan got a new contract. He also got a new agent, Omar Scafuro, and it's he who has confirmed the transfer to Record.

Scafuro also told the newspaper that Cardiff owner Vincent Tan sees Portuguese football as somewhere to invest. Record think that the Willyan transfer is the start of some cooperation between Beira-Mar and Cardiff.

They go on to say that Beira-Mar have another excellent young talent named Pité. The 19 year old Portuguese midfielder has been the subject of interest from other clubs in the country including Benfica, Braga and Pacos de Ferreira. Cardiff City would get an advantage if they struck up a relationship along with the signing of Willyan.

a chunk of money for a youngster with a comparatively low ratio of goals to games.

    We've done worse though.
