We welcome the friendly folk of Wigan....like us formerly in The Premier League, but unlike us fighting to stay in The Championship! These people are used to meat pies and chippy teas, and we will not disappoint them with our Clarke’s “nibble and suck” offerings at about £1.90! Gary Madine loved them, and it certainly did him no harm as his goal column testifies! We should win this one, accepting that David Marshall and Anthony Pilkington will probably play blinders....so 4-0 City!
First time I saw City play Wigan I was one of the hardy 3-4000 witness the one and only appearance in a City shirt by Billy Woof who scored a late winner! Anyone else here who was on the sparsely filled Bob Bank that September afternoon in 1982?
I remember Wigan beating us 4-0 at theirs....Alan Cork was in charge sadly! Four headed goals from four corners....sacked in the morning!
Brought back memories to see, between the first and second goals, the stewards escorting the turnstile operators around the ground with bags full of gate receipts. Always used to see that at Ninian Park. Can't even buy a cup of tea now with the cash in your pocket. What other 'traditions' have gone?
I probably was as well but to be honest I really can't remember. Spent a lot of Saturdays standing in the Bob Bank in the old days.
I was filling the bank up on Saturdays on a regular basis back then...it wasn’t called Bob Bank though ...sperm bank.....lots of little Masky’s about now....quality!
If I’m not wrong I think this was the game Simon Haworth got a rollicking from his manager for doing the Ayatollah
Cardiff City will look to extend their unbeaten league run to seven matches when they host struggling Wigan. Manager Neil Harris kept an unchanged squad for Wednesday's 3-0 win at Huddersfield and may opt to do so again on their return to home soil. Wigan centre-back Chey Dunkley is suspended after being sent off in Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough. Full-back Antonee Robinson, who almost joined Italian giants AC Milan in January, is out with a groin problem. Graham Kavagnah could get a start against his former club.....hi Graham....it’s Masky! Match facts Cardiff have won two of their last 15 league games against Wigan (W2 D6 L7), winning both games in the 2014-15 season. This will be Wigan's first away league visit to Cardiff since October 2016, winning 1-0 via a Jordi Gomez goal. Cardiff are unbeaten in all nine home games under Neil Harris in all competitions (W3 D6), with their last home defeat coming in Neil Warnock's last game in charge against Bristol City. Wigan have won two of their last three away Championship games (L1), one more than they'd won in their previous 34 away league games (W1 D9 L24). Cardiff's Lee Tomlin has more goals (7) and assists (7) than any of his team-mates in the Championship this seaso
All square. Sat in the shed and denis has arrived. Heard he was coming. Not my type for having a beer with. Bit wet. Speaking of beers, might stop in one of our locals on the way past. Treat mrs remote to a G&T. They dont mind farming tramps in the bar. Not allowed in the lounge though. Saying that, not got my wallet. Might need her to treat me.
On the optimistic side, we are now only 3 points off the playoffs. Really need 3 points at Stoke now to counterbalance this result. Going to be tough again though.
Terrible refereeing all game. Debatable penalty for Wigan. At least 3 decent shouts for a penalty turned down. And to cap it all a perfectly valid goal wrongly chalked off. But to be honest City didn’t create enough over the 90. As for our players, Paterson again showed he’s not a centre forward. But again like v Reading Ward missed a chance he should be putting away. The weather made it difficult but that’s 2 points dropped
