Spurs come into the match in 5th place in the table on 50 points with Cardiff in 19th place on 22 points. This will be the 54th time the two teams have met and the first time in the Premier League at the Lane. Cardiff City were founded as Riverside AFC in 1899. In 1908, the club changed their name to Cardiff City and moved to Ninian Park two years later. They joined the Southern League Second Division shorty afterwards. The Bluebirds won promotion to the SL First Division for season 1913-14 and ended the 1914-15 season in third place before football was suspended for WW1. Cardiff spent one more season in the Southern League before joining the Football League Division Two in 1920-21, when they finished as runners-up and won promotion to Division One. The first meeting with Tottenham Hotspur at Ninian Park in August 1921 resulted in a 1-0 win for Spurs with Jimmy Banks scoring the winner. Spurs won the game at White Hart Lane 4-1 a week later with Tommy Clay, Andy Thompson (2) and Jimmy Dimmock all scoring. The first FA Cup meeting came in March 1922 with Spurs drawing 1-1 in Cardiff and winning the replay 2-1. To date, the clubs have played six FA Cup games with Spurs winning three, two games drawn and Cardiff winning once. The clubs met regularly during the 1920s and early 1930s, including two seasons in Division Two. Two matches were played during World War Two in March 1941 with Spurs winning the War Cup game 3-2 at Ninian Park after a 3-3 draw at White Hart Lane. The clubs met for three seasons in Division Two in the 1940s with Spurs winning five of the six matches. From 1952 to 1962, Spurs and Cardiff played 14 matches in Division One with 6 wins for Spurs, 4 draws and 4 wins for Cardiff. At the end of the 1961-62 season, Cardiff City were relegated and only returned to the Top Flight for season 2013-14. Tottenham drew 0-0 at Cardiff in the Second Division in September 1977 and won the game at White Hart Lane 2-1 in Juanuary 1978 with Scottish striker John Duncan scoring both goals. The only Football League Cup match the clubs have contested came in October 2002 with Teddy Sheringham scoring at the Lane. The most recent meeting came in the FA Cup 3rd Round in January 2007 with the clubs drawing 0-0 in Cardiff and Spurs winning the replay 4-0 with goals from Aaron Lennon, Robbie Keane, Steed Malbranque and Jermain Defoe. During the summer 2013 transfer window, Spurs central defender Steven Caulker moved to Cardiff City for a reported £9,000,000. Spurs won the game at Cardiff in September 2013 1-0 with Paulinho scoring the winner late into stoppage time in the second half. Overall, Spurs have won 29, Cardiff have won 11 and 13 of the 53 matches between the two clubs have been drawn. please log in to view this image Full Results of Tottenham Hotspur v Cardiff City Matches 1921-2014 please log in to view this image They Played for Spurs & Cardiff.... Mark Lawrenson's Prediction for Tottenham Hotspur v Cardiff City (Sunday, 16:30 GMT) Cardiff are in deep trouble at the bottom of the table and, as a rookie Premier League manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces a huge task to keep them up. In fact, I look at the Welsh side and think they are doomed. I certainly don't see them getting anything at White Hart Lane. Tottenham looked flat in their defeat by Norwich last week and they are now heavily reliant on Emmanuel Adebayor to lead their attack. A top-four finish for Spurs is still the target for their manager Tim Sherwood but I am not sure they will get it. I would expect them to beat Cardiff, but I would not say the same about their next game, which is against Chelsea. Lawro's prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Cardiff City Lawro's 2013-14 Predictions
Lawrenson doesn't like us but on this occasion i can only hope for some kind of Caddyshack type situation, and we get hit by lightening and play our best game of the season. We were a little unlucky in our early season loss to Spurs though.
Foresee a plucky defeat but in the end too much class will tell. City's last 10 away games:- Won 0 Drawn 2 (both 0-0) Lost 8 Goals scored 4 Conceded 22
thanks for posting, this was a great read. Cant see anything other than a Spurs win to be honest. I think we would be very lucky to even scrape a point from WHL
Isawron - not sure about unlucky in that first game pal - they pulverised us. I sat with my arse twitching for the entire game and it was nothing to do with the pies. They pulverised us and showed the massive difference in the quality of the respective players. I suppose you could say we were unlucky on two accounts though. Clattenburg should have sent off Lloris for the handball outside the box, but Campell should have beaten him anyway with a one on one like that. Secondly, maybe we were "unlucky" because they got one in the end as we'd played a blinder defensively. In the end we were shown up on the day as a poor imitation of a Premier League side and I don't see this Sunday being any different. If we come away with a point, I'll be very grateful and also deeply shocked.
Lloris off or 1-0 up after 15minutes would definitely have helped though! Harsh to blame FC on that occasion as Lloris cheated to stop him. We'll get nothing but another dent in our goal difference Sunday imo. They did batter us though and no one could argue when our resistance ended in extra time.
Agree they were far the superior side, but luck definitely was not on our side that day, the disallowed goal of Turner was a bit iffy aswell.
