    Cardiff City v Swansea City

    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - Cardiff City Stadium
    Kick off - Noon
    Date - Sunday, 12 January 2020

Following their comprehensive 1-5 defeat (or thrashing as per Lineker) in the FA Cup at the hands of QPR, next up for Steve Cooper’s Swansea squad is the small matter of the South Wales derby against Cardiff and the opportunity to become the first team to do the double in the same season.

Against QPR, West Ham United loanee Jordan Hugill scored a first-half double either side of Bright Osayi-Samuel's strike.

QPR, who put six past Cardiff City on New Year's Day, threatened to do the same, but the Swans improved and hit back through substitute George Byers.

But QPR fought back and sealed the win courtesy of Lee Wallace's volley and Josh Scowen's incredible finish.

The day before the Swans’ exit from the FA Cup, League Two strugglers Carlisle were denied one of the upsets of the FA Cup third round as Cardiff City fought from 2-0 down to draw.

Jack Bridge nodded Carlisle ahead after his penalty was saved and Harry McKirdy headed a second before half-time.

Cardiff were level 10 minutes into the second half thanks to goals from Callum Paterson and Gavin Whyte.

They spent the final half an hour in pursuit of a winner but were thwarted by Carlisle goalkeeper Adam Collin.

Despite the entertainment on the field, a gate of only 5,828 was present at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The Swans have played Cardiff on 67 occasions, winning 28, losing 22 and drawing 17.

The last time the Clubs met in a Championship fixture in Cardiff was on Sunday, 7 November 2010 when the Swans ran out 1-0 victors thanks to a Marvin Emnes goal in the 75th minute.

Turning to Sunday, whilst the Swans will be boosted by the arrival of Rhian Brewster on loan from Liverpool, Cardiff will be fired up following their inept performance at the Liberty. Whilst I think that the Swans are capable of being the first team to do the double in this fixture, I suspect that Cardiff will prevail 2-1. Hope I’m wrong and the Swans win!

Whatever happens, the Swans will be the higher of the two sides in the Championship table on Sunday evening. <cheers>

Well, if history is anything to go by we have absolutely nothing to look forward to in this game.

0 - 0 because even though both teams can't defend for **** (serious, serious ****) nobody will score any goals.

    Unless it's a penalty.

    Then we'll lose 1-0.

Tony Harrington is the referee for Sunday's clash.

He has been refereeing in the Football League since 2012, and he has been a regular in the Championship since 2015-16.

He will be assisted by Timothy Wood and Daniel Leach, while Geoff Eltringham is the fourth official.
