If Tom Finney had rung Masky, I’m sure he would have discussed the enigma that is Gary Madine...the Bluebird highly rated by all and sundry, as a prolific goal machine ready to pop! Well he can’t ring and Gary just can’t score to save his life. Will surely exit the club in January as part of a trimming down “On Your Bike” exercise! Tom knew how to go about his business, had an instinct for his role...how we’d love his like down here! Maybe it’s just not in him, he is athletic, puts himself about, holds the ball up...flicks the odd pass, but hmmmmm! Gary, Masky tried to big you up pal.....but ding ...a...ling! City to beat a somewhat bogey side with three goals from GM!
The last time I watched us play Preston at the CCS, it was an evening game around Christmas time and it pissed down from start to finish. We were in the middle of that "blip" (that's a polite way of saying ****e), and I think we lost 4 on the bounce around that time. They beat us by a single goal from a goalmouth scramble and Warnock unfairly blamed Etheridge and dropped him for the next game. I personally thought that was very unfair and demonstrated the vindictiveness to individuals that Warnock displayed on times. Always a tough game against Preston. Well organised and capable of beating anyone with their gameplan. Will need something special to break them down - maybe Tomlin is the right man at the right time.
Cardiff City will be without suspended captain Sean Morrison when they take on Preston North End in the Championship on Saturday. Morrison was dismissed during their comeback from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 against in-form Leeds United last week. North End will not have Darnell Fisher available for the trip to Wales as he picked up a 10th booking of the season. Boss Alex Neil may amend his defence by selecting captain Tom Clarke or Alan Browne in Fisher's place. Match facts Cardiff last hosted Preston in the Championship back in December 2017, losing 1-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium. They last lost consecutive home league games against them in January 2000. Preston have won three of their last four league matches against Cardiff (L1), one more than they managed in their previous 11 games against the Bluebirds. Having lost just once in their 10 home league games this season (W7 D2), Cardiff are looking to win three consecutive home games in the Championship since a run of seven straight victories in March 2018. Preston have lost four of their last five away league games (W1), scoring just one goal in the process. Cardiff playmaker Lee Tomlin has been directly involved in nine goals in his last nine league games (4 goals, 5 assists), providing an assist in each of his last four appearances. No Championship side has scored more goals via set-pieces (inc. pens) than Preston North End this season (16).
get the taxis ready for most of this team absolutely dreadful, not one shot on goal again.josh murphy has to be gone in January a complete waste of money.
Such a poor performance - that's what dissappoints rather than just the result. We still cannot pass the ball between each other to the point of embarrassment. Preston were far and away the better team and we got away with a point make no mistake. As far as individuals are concerned, I wouldn't have Murphy in the squad let alone on the pitch. He was worse than useless - FFS get rid. Bacuna and Tomlin tried hard, but their efforts were wasted because of the lack of off the ball movement from those around them. Pack is influential but is so slow, and Glatzel was bullied off the park. Peltier and Jazz are never going to cause the opposition any concern down the flanks - that has to be an area that Harris must tackle in January. Where are we going? Well not down that's for sure, but albeit that Preston are a decent side, any more of that rubbish especially at home not anywhere near a playoff spot either. Don't know the answer, but I don't think there is one amongst this present group of players. Forget the "fightback from the dead" at Leeds last week, that was more to do with them bottling than our football. Big, big shake up required.
Just one. A Tomlin cross come shot at the end. Overall dire. Can we get Camarasa and Arter back on loan please? Neither in match day squads for respective clubs today. Arter might be injured.
Am I not right in thinking that we have been second best in every game this season? We have won a few, lost a few....but generally a poor season thus far! I think this manager can still provoke a play off challenge, but it needs to start soon with the season half done....it’s not too late!
OS I couldn’t agree more. Murphy was appalling; he just gave the impression he just couldn’t care. One on one and he didn’t know what to do. Glatzel is not a target man. He needs the ball in front of him. City need to ditch the 2 wingers and instead play 2 decent wing backs and so be able to add another body into central midfield. PNE were horrid. But they were good at what did and really should have won BUT why didn’t Harris realise that and set up his team to put some pressure on them? I suppose the answer is he doesn’t have the players to do so.
Not one post on this forum today after that shamolic display yesterday - that speaks volumes about the situation we're in. If we'd come out on top with a win however achieved, we'd be happier on the surface, but do we really see things as having moved on?
No time for posting, drove to pick my mam up last night. Left her house at 7 this morning. Back late morning. Few errands, bite to eat then work at my daughters farm. Getting the pregnant ewes in tomorrow. Not long got in. Quaffed a couple beakers of mulled wine to warm up. Just funished helping mrs remote prepare tea. On the footy side, i think recent results have papered over the cracks of the performances. Very low %age posession, and since his first game in charge very few attempts on goal. Said before, I'll judge Harris on who he ships out in January as much as who he brings in.
It feels like a return to the Slade era but with slightly better players. Very little on the pitch for us to enthuse about. Back 4 back peddling and midfield pushed back to support them. Apart from Tomlin, the gap between midfield and the front is too wide and our wingers are ineffective - in Murphy's case non-existent - Glatzel or even Madine feeding off absolute scraps. The only bright spot was the return of Jazz other than one error where Etheridge got him out of the sh1te.
