WON'T BE AT THE GAME DUE TO DEATH

Pixie O'Harris MBE (born Rhona Olive Harris; 15 October 1903 – 17 November 1991) was a Welsh-born Australian artist, newspaper, magazine and book illustrator, author, broadcaster, caricaturist and cartoonist, designer of book plates, sheet music covers and stationery, and children's hospital ward fairy-style mural painter. She became patron to Sydney's Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children in 1977.[1]
Rhona Olive Harris was the daughter of George Frederick Harris, chairman of the Royal Art Society Cardiff, Wales, and Rosetta Elizabeth Harris (née Lucas). She was the fifth of nine children.[1] Rhona was the aunt of Rolf Harris. Her brother was Cromwell Harris, who immigrated from Cardiff, Wales to Perth, Western Australia. Cromwell was the father of Rolf Harris.

She was educated at Sully village school and Allensbank Girls School in Cardiff.[1] At age 14 she was a member of the South West Art Society.[1] The Harris family migrated to Australia in 1920 and settled in Perth. They moved to Sydney in 1921.[1]

Disliking her given name Rhona, and having been dubbed "the Welsh pixie" on the boat over to Australia, she became known as "Pixie".[1]

She originally produced her professional work under the name "Pixie O. Harris"; however, following a printer's error at the Sydney Morning Herald, which printed her name as "Pixie O'Harris", she permanently used that pseudonym.[2]

During the 1950s she completed a series of murals and paintings for the children's wards of several hospitals with her brother Olaf.[3] Some of these were later rediscovered, restored and put on display in 2020.[4]

    PNE Team News

Ryan Lowe will be able to call upon a few players who weren’t available to him last weekend, with one of those being Liam Lindsay, who returns from his one-game suspension.

Patrick Bauer and Sean Maguire are both expected to be in contention following their respective returns from injury.

Former Cardiff man Greg Cunningham and Tom Barkhuizen remain sidelined, while Josh Murphy is ineligible to play against his parent club.

Like PNE, Cardiff City head into this fixture after beating a side with eyes on promotion, having come out 2-1 winners away to Queens Park Rangers last weekend.

It was two of the Bluebirds’ youngsters who were on the scoresheet that afternoon, with Isaak Davies and Rubin Colwill netting, and it was Davies who opened the scoring for Cardiff when they beat North End in the FA Cup earlier this season.

The 20-year-old will be hoping to have earned a place in Steve Morison’s starting XI, which would likely see him partner former PNE man Jordan Hugill up front.

    Key Stats

PNE will look to extend their impressive recent record away from home which has seen them take ten points from their last five games on the road, and they’ve conceded just one goal in that spell.

Cardiff themselves are in search of a sixth straight victory against North End, what would be their 40th win over the Lilywhites in club history.

Ched Evans could make his 350th career appearance in this fixture, while Josh Earl is one away from 100.

    Our Last Victory

A last-gasp Tom Clarke goal in late December 2017 earned PNE a victory over Cardiff City to move them within a point of the Play-Offs.

In what was described as a “scrappy match” by manager Alex Neil, skipper Clarke headed home in stoppage time to end the year on a high.

James Linington will take charge of Saturday’s fixture, for what will be his second PNE game of the season.

He last refereed a North End fixture in August’s away defeat to Huddersfield Town, and this will be his 25th game as the main official this campaign.

In that time, he has shown 108 yellow cards and four reds. Linington will be assisted by Mark Pottage and Matthew Jones, while Trevor Kettle is the fourth official.

Preston North End were made to settle for a point as they couldn’t find the breakthrough against Cardiff City.

Ryan Lowe made two changes from the victory over AFC Bournemouth, with Liam Lindsay and Emil Riis coming in for Josh Earl and Ched Evans.

There weren’t too many chances of note in the first half hour of the game, with Cardiff’s most dangerous opening seeing former PNE man Jordan Hugill send a dangerous looking ball across the box for Isaak Davies, but Sepp van den Berg made sure it caused no harm.

At the other end, PNE had a penalty shout turned down on 25 minutes as Riis went down under the pressure of a home defender, while five minutes later Alex Smithies kept out Brad Potts’ low driven effort.

On 35 minutes, Daniel Johnson sent a brilliant sliding pass in between the defence for Riis to get on the end of, but his cutback couldn’t find a North End man.

PNE came out and took control of the early stages of the second half, as Ryan Lowe’s men camped inside the final third in the opening 15 minutes after the restart, with Cameron Archer and Brad Potts among those trying to make things happen.

It was the hosts who had the first shot on target of the second period on the hour mark, but Iversen comfortably collected Tommy Doyle’s effort.

North End’s best chance of the game then came courtesy of Johnson, who nicked in ahead of a defender on the edge of the box before making his way inside and seeing an effort kept out at close range by a combination of Smithies and Perry Ng.

On 81 minutes, Archer tested the palms of Smithies, but his save fell kindly for Browne, who just lost his footing at the vital moment and he sent his shot wide of goal.

Iversen, who hadn’t been asked to do much all afternoon, was forced to produce two strong saves late on to deny substitute Uche Ikpeazu and ensure North End left South Wales with a point.

Cardiff City line-up: Smithies; Ng, Flint, McGuinness; Drameh, Doyle (Colwill, 61), Wintle, Ralls, Doughty (Bagan, 81); Davies (Ikpeazu, 61), Hugill. Subs not used: Phillips, Vaulks, Harris, Denham.

PNE line-up: Iversen; van den Berg, Diaby, Lindsay (McCann, 57); Potts, Browne (Rafferty, 90+3), Whiteman, Johnson, Hughes; Riis (Sinclair, 85), Archer. Subs not used: Ripley, Bauer, Evans, Maguire.

    Attendance: 19, 743 (544 PNE fans)

    Referee: Mr J Linington.

Cardiff City boss Steve Morison told BBC Sport Wales:

"It was a 0-0 game, it had 0-0 written all over from about the first five minutes of the game.

"You are hoping for one moment and not to concede a goal.

"I shook hands with their manager at the end of the game and we said 'that was boring wasn't it?'

"But it's a point in the right direction. We would have lost that game a few months ago."

Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"It is a good point, but I think we were well worthy of the three points, we had some good opportunities, some good chances.

"I keep saying it, but if you can't win, don't lose.

"It is probably a fair result on reflection but it was one we thought we were worthy of winning.

"We had, I thought, the best chances, but we didn't have that quality in the final third, in some matches we've had it, but not today."
