Striker Heidar Helguson will miss Cardiff City's bid to seal promotion to the Premier League against Charlton on Tuesday because of injury. Iceland international Hulguson, 35, damaged a hamstring in Saturday's 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest. And having scored the opener, Helguson watched substitute Rudy Gestede's second-half brace. Fellow striker Fraizer Campbell and defender Matt Connolly also remain on the sidelines. Campbell, who joined the Bluebirds in January 2012, has an ankle problem. A groin strain keeps Connolly on the sidelines as they face a side bidding for a play-off place and who beat Barnsley 6-0 on Saturday. Rudy Gestede says Cardiff City must focus on all their remaining games even if they secure promotion to the Premier League against Charlton on Tuesday. The Bluebirds need a point to secure promotion after Saturday's 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. Substitute striker Gestede scored twice against Forest and said: "Even if we get one point we need to be focused for the rest of the season." Manager Malky Mackay has said his side will approach Charlton as normal. Tuesday's visitors to Cardiff City Stadium beat Cardiff 5-4 in November and thrashed Barnsley 6-0 on Saturday. And Chris Powell's side are also in the hunt for promotion via the play-offs. They lie ninth, six points behind sixth-placed Bolton with Leicester and Nottingham Forest above them, and the game against the Bluebirds is one of four remaining fixtures for the Londoners. After the Addicks, Cardiff travel to Burnley on Saturday, 20 April, host Bolton Wanderers seven days later and finish their season on 4 May at Hull. Before those tasks, Gestede has a double aim on Tuesday - promotion to the top flight and revenge for that November setback. "We lost the first leg against Bobby Charlton so now we want revenge and if we get… points it will be a good party with the fans," he said. Gestede expects an even better atmosphere to greet Charlton than Cardiff City have enjoyed at home this season. "We've got already a good atmosphere here every game so I think Tuesday's going to be amazing," said the French-born, Benin international. And having scored five goals in 23 Cardiff appearances - 21 as a replacement - Gestede also hopes his brace against Forest can be the springboard to reaching double figures. "The gaffer asked me to come on the pitch and I was ready so I did my job and scored twice [so] I'm very happy. "If I make double figures I'll be very happy." Stick Bellamy up top with Noone on the left. Throw on all the pace we've got and let it rip. As to the title, certainly within the last 50 years. The cup finals were big games but go down as a statistic. Tomorrow's result could have much longer and far reaching implications.
Start with Rudy while he still remembers where the goal is. Replace Smith with Noone. Let's go for it and get more than one point. Could be champions by Saturday tea time.
Yep, I'll go with that HB. No other changes needed except one more on the bench. I guess MM will go with Cowie but could be a chance for Velikonja.
I hope we finish it off in style with four wins. It matters not what happens next season, but to win the league will make up for a few of the heartaches many of us have endured over many years and indeed decades!
If Rudy is to realise his dream of double figures he'll have to start every game from here on in. However I don't think he should be taking revenge on Bobby Charlton, after all he is about 150 years old!
Iceland striker Heidar Helguson will miss the game against Charlton with a hamstring injury picked up in the win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend. His replacement Rudy Gestede scored twice but must compete with Joe Mason for a starting spot. Baden Powell is set to keep the same Charlton squad that thrashed Barnsley 6-0 and scorer Salim Kerkar could make the starting line-up. Defender Leon Cort, back after a knee injury, may stay on hold for Saturday Head-to-head • These clubs are meeting for the first time since Charlton came back from two goals down to beat Cardiff 5-4 at The Valley in November. • That was the highest scoring match ever between these clubs, and gives the Addicks the chance of a league double over the Welsh club last achieved in the 2007-08 Championship campaign. • Cardiff are four league goals shy of 100 against Charlton, but they have lost three of their last five home league games against these opponents, failing to score in the process. Cardiff City • Cardiff will be playing top-flight football for the first time in 51 years if they avoid defeat by Charlton, or if Watford, away to Millwall, do no better than draw. • The Bluebirds, who have missed out in the play-offs for the last three seasons, are unbeaten in four (W2, D2), have suffered one defeat in eight, and have lost only two of their last 27 home Championship fixtures. • Should Malky Mackay's side require further fixtures to complete the task, they still have to visit Burnley and Hull, with a home match against Bolton in between. • Icelandic midfielder Aron Gunnarsson is hoping to make his 200th start for English and Welsh clubs. Charlton Athletic • Charlton are coming off a 6-0 victory at Barnsley on Saturday and are chasing a third successive league win, to stretch their unbeaten run to five. • Chris Powell's men have picked up 10 points out of 12, and 13 points from the last six games to lead the Championship's form table. • The south-east London club are three places and six points outside the play-offs, with home games against struggling Wolves and Bristol City to come, either side of an away trip to out-of-form Middlesbrough. • The Addicks have also won three more games, lost three fewer and gained nine more points on their travels than at the Valley, the greatest such discrepancy in the Championship.
This is the one we'll be using. http://www.wiziwig.tv/broadcast.php?...01&part=sports Streaming starts an hour before kick-off.
Really nervous, but in a positive way. Two changes from Saturday, Noone in for Smith and Rudy in for HH. Can't wait......
