He also said Newport should become a district of Wales's capital city. Newport-born Sir Terry claimed south east Wales should promote itself to the world as "Cardiff, the brand." He has been interviewed for tonight's BBC Wales Week In Week Out programme in which he said: "If I was king, I would go [from] Swansea to Newport and I'd circle it and include the valleys. I'd say that's Cardiff." He added that he believed Newport would do "better economically" as a region of the capital. Admitting his idea would be controversial, Sir Terry, who was speaking from his corporate headquarters in Ottawa, Canada, said: "If Newport was a region of Cardiff it would do better economically. Many people won't like these words but I believe this started a long time ago - size matters." Great opportunity for VT to change the name of the club - Cardiff City & Swansea City could be renamed ......Cardiff City (East) & Cardiff City (West) ..................or even Cardiff City (Major) & Cardiff City (Minor)
While having an incredible eye for business, Matthews people and pr skills appear to lack something. All he has succeeded in doing is upsetting people from Newport, Swansea and the Valleys who have clear and distinct characters and personalities and would never accept a coalition with Cardiff. All of these areas have their economic and social problems which are best left to them to resolve in their own ways.
Can't fault the guy for his honesty. He looks at Wales the way others view us. Cardiff is Wales in the eyes of many foreigners.
Very true ITI but that is more through their ignorance of what the whole of Wales has to offer. Inevitably Cardiff is seen as the epicentre as that is where the government lives, it has the main airport (but lets not go there) and the most publicity. However if you speak to most Americans and tell them you are from Cardiff or even Wales, the reply will be "Gee, is that close to London?"
It is not just about Cardiff, we are talking about Wales and instead of conveniently dodging the issue the question should be why don`t we improve the other areas so that as a whole the Welsh can feel equally treated. jck
As a QPR fan, ihave nothing against you guys. I loved that day at the millenium stadium, noit only because of the game but because i had such a great time in a top city. credit to you boys. Now, aside of the fact that i wil always hate that result, i had fun in a big city that could cope with a decent exedous.No where else in wales could that be done..except in Human traffic. So thank you for that day and i hoope you stuff the swans fully..I have no alegence to either of you ;but the arrogance of some of the swans scum have aligned at lot of us with you....good luck boys PS..they should call SWANSEA a suburb of Cardiff!!
