Some teams have been pushing for a change in the car numbering system for next season. Jean Todt has also revealed he is in favour of the change. The change they are wanting is for each individual driver to have their own number for example Alonso would pick #7 which will always be on his car weather at Ferrari or if he moves to McLaren. The #1 will always be reserved for the champion. What do you guys think on this idea? I have put a poll above to vote on whether you like this system, the current system or the old Team Numbering system.
I always preferred the old system of the teams retaining their numbers, except for the team the WDC drives for. Some numbers became iconic with a team/driver.
I prefer the seeded driver system from the previous year. A lot of comps just do the top 10 and then let the rest pick their own number.
I really like the idea of drivers having their own numbers, Rossi 46 is so iconic and it'd be great to have that sort of thing in F1.
I can see why the teams want each driver to have their own number, it makes branding easier/more valuable. But, surely having "Vettel 1" is better than "Vettel 76" in showing how good you are? Also, if the WDC always has 1 on their car, surely the driver's own number isn't as easily associated with success. As an idea it doesn't bother me either way though really.
Penny has just dropped on the '21' as well. Not sure Webber would have seen the funny side if he had continued!
Marca reports that Alonso will choose 14, as that's his favourite number. I wonder what number Kimi will choose?
Make the numbers more visible at the same time? please log in to view this image I normally go off the helmets, using the 'not Webber' theory to work out who Vettel is since he's always changing.
What happens if two drivers want the same number!? Who would get priority? Would it be based on WDC finishing position the year before the number allocation is done? Would also be odd having drivers of the same team with non-consecutive numbers
