Just had my renewal notice through for later this month....gone up from £365 to £696! I've been driving for over 50 years and never had an accident, apart from one time about 30 years ago when someone ran into the back of me..no blame on my part and no claim on my insurance. Anyone else had this kind of increase in premium? To say I'm ****ing furious is an understatement!
You may have hit an age where the insurance companies don't want to insure you any more. I used to work for Zurich and there were loads of cars, postcodes and ages that we didn't want to insure so we (they) bumped the prices right up. I always shop around these days - use the comparison websites and find a better deal
69 years old and just renewed mine. I change providers every year so get decent deals. The company I was with raised my premium from £160 to £240. I went on to Quidco and entered the Go Compare search engine through Quidco. I got my new insurance for £180 and £58 cashback on top.
When you get to 70 it will go up again, whether you have a good driving history or not, it happed to me last year and to my wife this year. Outrageous really.
My mileage halved this year but my insurance still went up £100. Same car, no points, accidents etc. Very frustrating. Similar has happened to my girlfriend too
I work for a car insurance company and unfortunately this is happening to the majority of customers. Always use the comparison websites like Go compare, compare the market, money supermarket etc Whatever you do, do not lie, Im in counter fraud and you will get caught and it will ruin your future insure for at least the next 5 years.
I've got no intention of telling any lies mate. If I ever do have an accident,I want to be sure I'm going to get paid out,not challenged on any element of the validity of the policy! That said,I expect to be treated with respect in regard to premiums and,as in my case, with an increase of almost double,I expect to be advised as to the reason why. Trying to talk to anyone with any common decency however,to try to secure an explanation, seems to be a bridge too far for most of these greedy people.
Isn't it a shame that it doesn't work the other way as well so that if the insurance company lies about their best offer on your insurance that they get a 5 year penalty as well might make them actually do the job better and self regulate themselves instead of the pure profiteering that goes on in the business, as it is, it is like the wild west and punters have to constantly change providers to try and get a decent quote whole systems stinks to the high heavens
Chris Rock said "I pay insurance incase s##t happens, if s##t doesn't happen, shouldn't I get my money back"? In all seriousness mate, and you'll probably not have the details, but how do insurance companies just decide what they fancy charging people when it's renewal time? Sometimes renewal quotes boarder on a p##s take. It's like they don't want a person's custom anymore.
Doing the same with my house insurance this month, last year I got buildings and contents for something like £80 and £35 cash back through Quidco.
Again it’s the publics own fault nobody else’s, nearly every one is savvy enough these days to get together and just refuse to use one big company altogether, then you would see how quickly prices would drop, but no, everyone likes to say they managed to get a better price than their mate.
I have just got a new car (new for me) and went on the money saving experts website, he said never accept a renewal quote and ask for numerous quotes about 1 month before renewal (I think he stated a month)
Try it by insuring a younger member of your family and being added. Forget any notion of loyalty, they just want your money.
That's certainly not the case with me Rooch, The OP asked if anyone had had a similar experience to him and I told him I had and how I dealt with it. Not crowing, just trying to be helpful
Sorry mate, no offence meant to you at all. I was just ranting about how we let companies get away with everything and it’s our own fault, if we all could find a way to stick together we could have better prices on everything, sorry again mate. Ps my insurance is due beginning of November.
Quidco is your friend Rooch You should get a price at least a month before your old insurance expires
