I can suggest a website that gives you a step by step guide to finding your cheapest quote. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/compare-cheap-car-insurance
Have you tried adding your mother/other female onto it. I did it when i was younger and saved a bit. The missus is on mine now and I'm on hers - when we first did it I saved a couple of quid but she saved over £100
Yep, done that. Ironically by putting me as the named driver on a female only policy, my mrs was able to use my no claims discount! Just used "beatthatquote" from Ricardos link and I've shaved a chunk off. The daft thing is, I'd pushed my current provider as far as they'd go but got a cheaper quote from them through the comparison site.
And the ridiculousness of that is, I didn't get a car when I passed my test, or even added on the insurance on my mum's. Before I left work a couple of years ago we put looked into putting me on my mum's insurance for a year and it cost £10 extra. They asked plenty of questions about my age, how long I'd had my licence, my job, any claims I'd had, points on my licence etc. What they didn't bother asking about was whether I'd actally driven a car in the previous 7 or 8 years.
I've had a quote for £22,000 before, and I'm an advanced driver in a little Micra. Fact is, they don't give a **** about the various risk factors involved, just the age of the driver. EDIT: Beat that JD
£22000 ? Christ on a ****ing bike. You could buy a private jet for that. You wouldn't get a pilot thrown in for that price but you'd definately get a private jet. One of those G6's or a Lear. Robbing bastards.
You could either put your mum/wife as named driver? Or, I saw this on a tv program saying, if you get a quote for fully comp first, they'll think you'll be a careful person (not driver, just yet) then beat them down and then change your policy to 3P,F&T and it'll be lower still. Or get a bike. I can derelick my own balls!
If you phone your provider and tell them you have it cheaper from the site they should at least match it. Then ask if they will reduce your premiums by the amount of commission they pay to the comparison sites....worth a try. Just bear in mind that the vast majority of comparison sites are NOT independent and owned by the banks and insurance companies.
Exactly. There is no difference between passing your test at 17 and driving every day for 33 years and getting insured at 50, (after having a minor accident and your NCD reset) as there is to passing at 17 and not touching a steering wheel for 33 years. God that took some wording.
