Brede will miss Saturday's game against Norwich and it looks likely that Berba will also. So who will/should get the Captain's armband.

Riise got it in the second half against United, which was a bit surprising given that Aaron Hughes came on and what with JAR's recent bust up with Jol. Can't say I was watching JAR in that role too closely, the ball being in the United half most of the time ( :emoticon-0102-bigsm ) but kind of got the impression he did okay. Certainly remember him doing a bit of shouting and arm waving.

Sidwell (if fit and indeed if selected) is an option. Kara is a candidate as well but only for the first hour if Jol plays to plan.

Logic tells me that JAR will keep it but I'd like to see it going to Kara.

I'd like to see Kara get it, he's becoming a favourite of mine. I don't think he's been with us long enough though... Probably JAR for me, he has a lot of experience.

If Duff plays, I'd give it to him ahead of all of the above mentioned. If Berbatov is back, he's another possibility. I'd prefer to see Riise, Hughes, Kara etc ahead of Berba, but I could see it happening.

Ah good call on Duff, Captain, he'd probably be my pick too.

I imagine it'll be Schwarzer. If not Schwarzer, Duff deserves the armband for his seniority.

To be honest, Kara doesn't need the armband. He seems to be a true captain, in that he leads and organises our team without the need for the armband.

Who is the natural leader on the pitch? I think Karagounis but we've got some senior pros in the team.

And that's, ironically, the best argument for making Kara the captain! My reasoning for Duff is similar - he's always talking, cajoling, urging his team-mates whether he's got the armband or not.

I think it has to be Senderos…

He is our most consistent player - He is consistently socking.
He never disappoints - Everyone expects him to have a shocking game and he generally does.
He has us on the edge of our seats - Just as we thought we might get a point against UTD he fu(ks up…….AGAIN.

I really can’t see what this guy gives us (with the exception of being dam ugly - which most good centre backs are). Maybe if we give him the armband it will transform him... It surely can’t make him any worse!

My vote goes to Big Phil

Come the end of the season, I suspect two new, young centerbacks will be top of Jol's shopping list. I figure Hangeland has a couple years left, given his skill and read of the game. But I can't see Hughes getting much playing time after this summer.

The only thing good about Senderos is watching his lurching, lumbering runs forward with the ball, which are always funny.

Agree with everything said. It's no surprise to see how Karagounis has been Captain for Greece for so long, he gives confidence to the other players. However, due to his length of stay at the club I think Duff would be a better choice. I always believed that the Captain should be a midfielder, between the defence and attack, able to give orders, rather than being isolated in goal or up front.
