Woke up to the news that one of my lifelong friends died during the night.

Red and white through and through. Great lad and only 57.

Couldn't give a toss about the match now. Devastated.

Thanks lads. I went to a load of Derby games at Roker with him. He was a well known lad, lovely fellow and I knew they'd never be any bother with him around.

Strange, he had arthritis for a long time and the tablets he took attacked his lungs to the effect where they looked like they'd been slashed with a Stanley knife. He was told last year he needed a double lung transplant but he kept putting it off. He was on the waiting list now. Too late.

His two sons are season ticket holders.

    Puts football into perspective.

Sorry to hear Somb, you're right that events like this show us what football really is, a game, just a game.

Thoughts with you and his family today.
