I'd have thought Roy Wegerle's goal would have been No.2 but you won't get a better No.1 than Sinclair's...
Townsend and Austin the only ones I'd have any issues with being in the top ten. Les vs Man U, or Sheff Utd might be worth a spot imo. Top 3 for me would be Sinclair, Wegerle, Taarabt (Swansea)
I was at many of those games. The thing I remember about the Ainsworth and the Sinclair goals were that the opposition fans also stood and clapped the goal. I think Adel's goals are also special. Personally - the Gerry Francis goal would be in the top three for me. The speed, confidence and skill of us then was AMAZING to watch. A great feel good video - thanks for sharing Queenslander!!
There are plenty of great goals that aren't on film unfortunately, one of the best I saw was at the old Valley when it had the huge standing terraces, I was up in the top corner looking straight in line behind Dave Thomas who cut in from the left and hit a sweet 35 yarder that went straight as an arrow into the top far corner. Back in 1975 you only had a few televised matches each week...
Yeah I think this list goes down as the best 10 the guy who made the list could remember. Can remember many goals that should be in there ahead of some of them. Ray Wilkins against Liverpool, Tony Curries first goal for us against Watford, A sir les flying header, the aforementioned Dichio goal to name but a few.
Remy against Wigan was special, and one that keeps getting better each time I see it. Glad to see Adel vs Ipswich in there, I was at that game and will never forget it. I miss Nigel Quashie vs Chelsea in the FA Cup (think it was 1997). Adel vs Fulham. And Routledge vs Coventry (Adel's insane assist).
Can't argue with the number 1 spot. Trev's goal STILL makes me proud to be an R. I think that has been voted the best FA Cup goal. Loads of others that are not on film. I have to add, that for sheer drama Bobby v Derby at Wembley. Ohhhhhhhhhhh, Bobby Zamora!!!!
All the non-recent goals were better, although the second Adel strike and the Remy strike were excellent finishes. Number 7 is one of the best turns I have ever seen a player take.
It shows Allen was more than just a finisher, how we could do with him now! He got 49 goals one season for Spurs, a feat unlikely ever to be repeated...
Can't believe how baggy Ainsworth's shirt was. Don't think any of these goals were scored when we had astroturf.
1. Taarabt is the only player to get two spots in top 10. WE MUST HAVE HIM IN STARTING XI! 2. Clive Allen....aka Zidane. 3. Gareth Ainsworth - Christ alive. Forgot that one. 4. When Charlie scored the thunderbolt, every outfield player comes over to him. Even BAE. What a difference a season makes. All down to Harry?! Is BAE back at spurs? Just a thought. 5. Trevor. Just Trevor. ........
Trevor Francis (love him or hate him) seems to be a player (cuz he was a crap Manager) everybody ignores on here but he scored a lob v Villa (I think) that was every bit as good as these and another 5 or so equally as good 88/89?! It was similar to Best's famous goal but better........ Plus any of Mark Falco's volleys............... Andy Gray (not the commentator) v Man U to win us the game 3-2.......................... Plus Stan v Cologne when he receives from short corner and beats 3 along the line before slipping it under the keeper 1977 plus...........................................................
Obviously a list for the era of easy videos. Lest we forget... Rodney's equaliser in the 67 League Cup Final. Any number of Stanley goals but the one mentioned by Fortyyears above does stand out. I'm sure Tony Currie had a couple of spectaculars as well.
A great selection of fantastic goals. I've always loved Adel's goal against Preston. It had so many elements to it: great control on his chest, the strength to hold off the first opposition player, quickly up to speed, a nutmeg and a thunderous finish. To have two goals in the Top 10 says something.... Like QPAAAAAGH, I'd have to include Rodney's goal at Wembley.
