Fulfilling Potential: Part 1 - Versatility a curse?

Can Zaha Smalling and Jones reach their full potential at MUFC or is their versatility blocking their progress? http://t.co/KE3hFJHv4T

Jones and Smalling's biggest problems so far have been injuries.

Zaha will play primarily on the wing so I don't think he'll have to worry about being played out of position unless we have a bunch of injuries.

How much game time do you envisage him getting?

I was talking to a mate about Man Utd youth players, becuase in the past Hull have bought a couple, namely Brady, Dudgeon, Chester, Evans and Stewart. I told him the 3 that I would have liked us get but knew we had no chance of getting were Jones, Smalling and Cleverley, I think if providing that there's no long term injuries for these guys in the future then those 3 plus maybe Zaha would be likda like the giggs, neville and scholes of the future (and by that I dont mean what positions they play I just mean long serving members of the club)

Depends on who comes in and who goes, what formation Moyes has us lining up in, and how hard Zaha pushes himself.

If no one leaves and we don't sign anyone out wide, he's competing with Valencia and Nani who both had very poor seasons, along with Young, who is nothing more than a squad player.

Zaha clearly has the potential to be a great great player, but he has to have the mentality to make himself into that player. Plenty of people with the talent of Zaha have had their shots at the big time, but not all of them are willing to work for it. If he puts in the effort, he'll have a good shot at earning a starting spot by the end of the season.

In the case of Jones I think his versatility could be a problem, if we're not careful we might end up with a John O Shea mark 2, Jack of all trades, master of none.
He needs to play at centre half and nowhere else, as of the Swansea game and from there on in. He has the potential to be very, very good.

Smalling can stay as centre half/right back for now, he isn't of the same quality as Jones and being an able back up in both positions is useful. He wouldn't have midfield as another position confuse issues.

I see Zaha as a winger of the future. Can't really see him playing elsewhere.

Smalling is by far the most promising of the 3. Top top player and possible future vice captain (obvious Wilshere will be next captain)

Zaha can play behind Strikers in a free role or in the wings

I'd say Jones has the most potential out of him and Smalling, wouldn't like to comment on Zaha not seen enough of him.

    What Ruff said.

I think Jones and Smalling could have a very partnership in the centre of defence, maybe another Bruce and Pallister, if they can stay free from injuries.

ruff i couldnt agree more jones must be left at centre half, smalling playing along side of him as i think rafael was pretty steady last season,at right back. zaha on the left valencia will be ok on the right no cover though nani and young are garbage, i cant understand why we cant play 2 up front (rooney and rvp) im still worried with midfield not a big carrick fan, anderson? cleverley? and did we sell powell back to crewe? moyes thinks this squad strong enough, im not sure
