Think it also shows how bad some of our buys have been over the years. Anyone I missed? Obviously if we lose Suarez it will be for a big club but an interesting one is Lucas. If he does not get to the standard he was at or if BR feels he is surplus, which one would he eventually fall under? Even a flop like Aquilani, who we knew had talent but it didn't work, went to Juve and Fiorentina. Big teams.
take Italians out the equation lol, they are talented but either made of glass or cant cope with the prem, only exception i can think of to the rule is Zola. Babel i had hopes for but wasn't to be, Ajax are a good team so not exactly gone backwards, the rest are ****e though and cant believe they was considered good enough to wear the shirt. Lucas i have always felt is a good squad player to have much like Henderson, obviously we all have dif opinions, but good enough to be relied on when needed, but not the standard for a team that wants to win things and have to play every game as no better alternatives. Lucas,Henderson and Gerrard should all be squad players, but they are important first team players, that's an issue that hopefully is being looked at. Gerrard it is more he seems ****ed and getting on a bit, having to play every game is starting to show, he needs rotating with someone.
Ryan Babel has to be the biggest floppy penis ever known, utter ****, a right footed left winger who couldn't pass a a lighter if you asked him, IMHO was worse than downing, **** attitude, a nothing player and a complete waste of 11m ( or 9m can't recall ) wow Babel was utter tripe, almost a houllier buy he was that ****ing bad. no coincidence he was sold back to Ajax, loaned out from them to Turkey then released on a free. (pretty sure that's correct) thank **** those days of buying crap are gone. Lucas is a squad player at best now, Rodgers has sorted up front, addressed the back, this Jan will be midfield, hence mvilla in the stands today, better times are coming people.
Babel was better than Downing mate come on! He was flawed but also scored some excellent goals for us. He wasn't quite good enough, whereas Downing was just miles away.
Agreed if you factor in the comparative values of players. I was pissed off at the time when we were linked to him and bought him because he was never, ever, good enough for us. It pains me the likes of Kenny think he was.
We had a good squad in the Rafa days, and people seem to forget we did get to #2 in the PL with him at the helm. Naturally those players went on to big clubs (Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Arbeloa). Kenny (and here ONLY discussing the most recent tenure at LFC) didn't have the best of luck in the transfer market, paying a combined £70m for Carroll, Downing and Henderson - his saving grace is bringing in Suarez, which was a steal at £22. In the world of what could have been just imagine which players we could have gotten instead of that trio for £70m. Stevie is getting older no doubt, but he is still an integral part of the team, building a solid foundation for the creative trio in front of him. Lucas is a solid squad player, but not anywhere near the likes of Xabi and Mascherano - which are/were world class players.

don't agree about Babel better or less worse than downing, Babel was **** in a decent team, downing was **** in a **** team but at least put some effort in most times. one hard tackle and Babel was invisible.
Pretty sure we sold Babel to Hoffenheim didn't we? And the OP makes a pretty good point, it isn't something I'd ever invested much thought in before but when you look at it that way you begin to see just how poor some of our signings have been.
