Wilshere deserves his plaudits. He is the real deal. Already an established regular in the first team and staking a place in the heart of the England Midfield too. He is quickly becoming one of the premier league's best players and one of Arsenal's most important.

Could he go on to emulate Paul Scholes, who imo has been one of England's best box to box battling MF's ever?

Denilson is better now than Scholes was in his prime.

Scholes was/is the master of 'sorry I was a bit late with that tackle'.

Wilshere just tackles hard but fairly most of the time - never malacious.

I've never seen Scholes do a malicious tackle either. He just lacks control and timing - you never look at one of his tackles and think that he's going all out to hurt the guy he's tackling. He just can't tackle for toffee!

And Scholes is also the master of opening up opponents with pin point and intelligent passing and excellent technique. Wilshire's definitely got the potential to be as good as Scholes, but still has a long way to go. After all, I heard people make the same comment about Jermaine Jenas and Kieron Dyer...

Oh come on Swarbs - I cannot believe you said that - Scholes has often gone over the top! And Arsenal have also had players that once in a while have blotted their copybook - most teams have. Scholes just does it too often.

    what a ridiculous article.

i cant see the best central midfielder of the next 10 years (whoever it will be) claim his toughest opponent and the best hes ever played against was wilshere <laugh>

Yeah, gone over the top in terms of wanting to win the ball and not paying enough attention. Not gone over the top in a malicious Keane / Vieira / Bowyer / Barton "let's make sure the other guy doesn't get up" way. A tackle doesn't have to be malicious in order to be careless or dangerous.

Wilshere is only 19 and has only broken through to the first team, it will be a few years until you can see if he will be as good as or better than Paul Scholes. He has great potential but it's far too early to say how good he will become.

Agree, it will take a while for him to prove his pedigree. But I think the raw ingredients are there already. He ran rings around Xavi and Iniesta for large parts of the game against Barca and at 19 he's only going to improve <ok>

Not sure about running rings around them (The number of passes Iniesta and Xavi completed and their control was ridiculous), but he was more direct with better end product. The main reason I prefer Ronaldo to Messi is that while Messi can pass and dribble past players all day long Ronaldo is more direct.

Definitely something in the efficiency of direct play as you rightly point out. Xavi and Iniesta are probably the best CM pairing in the world right now, so for young Jack to play as good a game as them speaks volumes about his talent. I think it's great that he is already staking his place in the England team too. I think he will deliver what Lampard and Gerrard failed to do so for so many years. I truly believe that Wilshere will be the next Scholes....and that is giving a big compliment to Scholes also

just a little something highly respected journalist henry winter wrote regarding ravel morrison..

Better than Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere, certainly up there with Jack Rodwell, if Morrison does emerge as the pre-eminent English footballer of his generation, it will be because of a certain Scot’s shrewd guidance.

    i concur <ok>

Remains to be seen I suppose - the same as the comparison with Wilshere and Scholes <ok>

how is saying morrison is better than wilshere the same as stating that wilshere can be better than one of, if not the greatest english midfielder of all time?
