Remember how we shocked everyone in the 07-08 season when they were all tipping Arsenal to drop out of the top 4 after selling Henry? I think the doubt is a bit similar.
Who would've thought the clown Adebayor would be an able replacement for Henry?

Though I'm not a big fan of Giroud, surely Cazorla and Ozil will turn him into Ibrahimovic. <laugh>

Regardless, we do have all the tools to be up there. An excellent midfield now with one of the best playmakers in the world. Our defence is also pretty solid too. Don't care what the sheep who clearly don't watch Arsenal have to say about it.

Reckon we could be up there come January?

    You know my opinion.

I think we will challenge. Actually winning is harder to predict, obviously, but I don't understand the reasoning behind the pundits writing us off. I mean ask anyone and they will say our defense is suspect, but Manchester United's or Chelsea's isn't, even though they let in more goals than we did. They don't know why it is true exactly, if you challenge them, all you get back is, "Well, everyone knows it."

Similarly, Giroud is (apparently) not as good as Demba Ba. No one knows why, he just isn't, it's obvious innit.

Trying to keep myself in check because anything can happen in football and we could be unlucky, but if we do win this year, I'm probably going to pick up a ban or two from the other clubs forums.

Up there in January? Yes, I think it's likely.

Up there in May? Not as likely, and I doubt it'll happen. Saying that, I think the team will surpass the 73 point achieved last season.

... and while Arsenal are derided for not signing a defender, neither Chelsea nor United have added meaningfully to their back line either.

I think we have a first 11 and match day squad of 18 that is capable of putting in a title challenge. We are a bit thin depthwise in a couple of areas and so i can only see us putting in a proper title challenge if we can keep our main players fit for most of the season.

I'd be more confident we are capable of challenging if we strengthen in January, particularly if we bring in a world class striker. I like Giroud and think he had a good first season and will be even better this year, but it's a big weight on his shoulders and at some point all players have a dip in form.

Currently i think it's possible but with a fairly light squad that could change with injuries or improve in the January transfer window, so i think it's abit early to decide.

If we're up there in January we will need some investment in new players to bolster the squad if we are to maintain the challenge. Depends on January signings.

Yes, Arsenal can certainly challenge a lot more than Liverpool can

It's funny really. They pop up with smart comments like that on the Arsenal board on a thread which doesn't concern their team, yet the very same idiots whinge and demand the mods to ban you if you do the same.

We're not the ones with a thread about us challenging for the title this year. His comment had nothing to do with Liverpool yet you're so obsessed with us you feel the need to bring us up.

How about we stop talking about challenging for the title and wait a few months? ****ing hell, remember last season everyone was going on about us being title contenders from September only for such talk to go down the drain by November. So let's take a chill pill shall we?

I don't even understand why everyone thinks we're title challengers all of a sudden, yes Ozil is a magnificent player, but we needed more than 1 world class player, nobody was saying before the transfer window that 1 mega star would solve all our problems and make us into title challengers, we needed 4-5 top quality players, and we've only brought in 1 world class player, and 1 quality player in Flamini, we didn't strengthen our attack, and our defence is also in need of an extra quality CB.

I think most people agree we are a couple of players short. But if we can still be near the top when the January transfer window opens then we will have a chance to strengthen and may put up a title challenge.

As you say it's too early to be talking about a title challenge yet <ok>

With Arsenal87 on this we said we need to buy players for the first 11 and the sqaud (6 were needed according to me) Ozil and Flamini are the only ones who will effect the season that wasn't enough. However the signature of Ozil is a big deal and if we build on that making purchases of similar quality while adding either young/talented or old/solid players to the squad (fine tuning) it over the next 2-3 years we can build a team and squad to challenge on multiple fronts. Honestly this year I am looking on us to improve on last year - I still don't expect us to do more than CL qual and a domestic cup. I would like to us go further in the CL as well.

But mostly improvement or progression is what I want. More points, fewer goals against, the defensive solidarity of the end of last season to continue, tactical improvement to change styles against certain oppositions etc etc. Yes there is always a chance we could compete and I will be delighted if we do, but realistically we won't and for now that is okay with me. If the Ozil signature is the start of the revolution then I am happy to wait a bit.

A player like Ozil isn't going to stick around for 2-3 years until we can start challenging, players like him want to be challenging from now.

I wasn't being cheeky just honest... I don't think you're that far ahead of us in terms of a title challenge and based my answer on that really. only genuine title challengers IMO are city manure and the chavs, us you and spuds in same boat fighting for 4th at best.

Don't see us anywhere near the title. Our squad is too small, any more injuries and we'll be lucky to make top 4.

There's always the chance that we could actually win the league. I'm not saying I think we will, but the opportunity is there go on a run like we did in the later half of last season and sustain it - and if we do then we can put ourselves right in the mix.

The obvious caveat to that is that our squad is thin, when we're only one player away from relying on Bendtner, then it's clear where we still need to strengthen and I feel that ultimately we haven't got enough depth yet to win it, but signing Ozil is a big step in the right direction

Also with another year experience from the likes of Cazorla, Giroud and with Ramsey and Walcott complimenting what we've got, then I think we'll do better than we did last season.
