Looking at the comparable table in our promotion year... after 35 games we were one point better off with 53 points. But we did pull back 9 points to pip Watford and 12 points on Bristol C to claim 3rd spot.... so history shows it can happen. We do have a harder run in than before. I just hope we can do the same and sneak a play-off spot! http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/league-championship/2007-2008/table/2008-03-05
I don't think we have any harder a run-in than 2008 when we had difficult away games at Bristol City Sheff U and Ipswich and lost all three. Our remaining home games against Burnley Norwich Millwall Donny Boro and Palace are all winnable. C'mon City.
See were your coming from.... guess the four fixtures with teams above as are the ones that really count as we have to make up the points difference. The other key factor in the previous promotion year was how many teams lost form above us. So it's not just in our hands.
We have to play more of the top teams then anyone else, so if we can get positive results out of them games then there is a real chance we can get in there ahead of Norwich, Forest or TWS. I have been sceptic over our play-off chances over the past few weeks, but today's (and let's be honest, immense result) has changed my view. If we lost today we'd have been 12th, so it just shows how close the Championship is
No we can't. We're not as good as we were in our promotion season. The manager isn't as good, and let's be honest the players aren't either. Not to mention we have a "Director of Football Operations" who doesn't want the club to be as successful. A good result today, but it's important to remember that we won't get anywhere near the Prem with AP at the club.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........ I also think getting into the play-offs will be difficult, and if we do go up then the squad won't be strong enough. But seriuosly, do you have to be this negative? I suspect if we did the impossible and got to the Premier League, you would be one of those who just moaned about how the team lacked quality and we were guarenteed to be relegated. Pearson has come in and saved the club from financial meltdown - did you want the free-spending (reckless is a better word) Duffen days to continue? Ok if the Allams hadn't of come in we would be far from challenging for the top six, but it was a neccesity that AP came in and secured our financial status. Now we have some money in the club, could you be a bit more positive? We're playing with quality, spirit and resilience and look good for at least a decent challenge for the top 6.
Why dont you do everyone a favour and go and support Preston. Get behind the current regime or stand accused of being a traitor. The club doesnt want fans like you. You need a good sorting out. The financial restraints are imposed by the Allams not Pearson you idiot. "errm No sorry Mr Allam we dont want your 30 million to invest in the team because I am a penny pincher." And pearson is proving to be a far better manager than Brown. if you cant see that you are a fool. Look at his signings. I bet you go to the games hoping we lose. I would love to meet you in person. Pm me, please.
Yeah I'm really glad AP came in, got us relegated and set us on course for the amazing heights of Championship mid table mediocrity for the forseeable future. Awesome. If we got to the Premiership this season I'd be too busy looking after my flying pig to care how much quality was in the team, but I would say that if we did ever get into the Premiership with AP here (and I doubt we ever will), then we'd be in serious danger of getting less points than Derby because the man just does not care about the on pitch success of this football club. As for your quality, spirit and resilience comment, do you really think that? Honestly. I haven't been today so I can't comment on today's performance, but if you look back at the season can you really say we've been the better team in every game that we've won? We've had a few good performances, but in the majority we've been lucky to escape with the points. The results are good, but the performances for the most part are not, so it's difficult to honestly say we're playing with "quality".
Alright there Colonel Gaddafi. Why would I want to meet somebody who says I "need a good sorting out", do it by offering me sweets or something. ****ing weirdo.
Of course we can, we clearly have some talent and the fact that we had one chance today and we took it proves as a side that we are improving. Obviously you want to create more and play better however when you are playing against a side such as Forest they are up there for a reason! We are only seven off them and five off Leeds still, come on back the boys!
Do you not want to chime in on the subject at hand? Or just me? Seriously, if you're going to mindlessly insult me, at least keep your post a little relevant to the thread. Otherwise it just gets boring.
See if you would take notice of comments that actually show you are a fool rather than say it some people may take you seriously. However you can not say that NP has made some great signings, yes we may only nick results but that is the key, do you remember United fans complaing about nicking results?
I've always said that NP has made good signings. Obviously he's dropped clangers (Solano, Harper), but on average his signings have been pretty good. I'm just not sure he's the man to get the best out of those players. Phil Parkinson made some excellent signings, but it took Brown to get the best out of them for instance. Having said that, I did say last week that I was warming to Nigel as he admitted we weren't playing well enough, which at least shows that he's not blind to the poor perfomances, and as I've already said we've got a great result today that honestly came as a surprise.
You really have no room to criticise for changing the topic at hand TWF. Can we match the 2008 performance - Your contibution - AP is a twat Bullard scored for Ipswich - Your contibution - AP is a twat Any other thread - - Your contibution - AP is a twat FFS change the record. You don't like him. We get it.
Actually if you took the time to read the threads, you'd see that although I may have come to the same conclusion (AP must go), I stuck to the topic at hand.
No, you manipulate the topic back into the same point you want to raise - repeatedly. And it is so very tedious. Not sure if it's some form of masochism on your part that seems to adore being flamed on an internet forum.
The question was "Can we match the 2008 finish" and I said I don't think we can because AP just doesn't have the ambition for us to be a PL club. That's staying on topic, what you're doing, is not.
