With all the players now back from their break and under-going the rigours of pre-season training I have been trawling through my old memory banks.

40 years have passed since Posh were last promoted as Champions at the end of the 1973-74 season (all other promotions since then being either as Runner-up or via the play-offs).

It is also interesting to note how time have changed - that was also the year that Leeds were Div 1 Champions and Manchester United were relegated, being replaced, amongst others, by Luton Town.

During that momentous season Posh only lost 8 games, achieving a total of 65 points (this was when it was only 2 points for a win).

Our full record that season was:

Played 46 Won 27 Drew 11 Lost 8 Goals for 75 Goals against 38 Points 65

Had it been 3 points for a win we would have had 92 points.

I feel a repetition of that performance would be enough to achieve promotion as Champions (though I would hope to see a considerably larger number
in the 'Goals for' column).

As a little memory cell teaser Posh hold, either jointly or solely, 4 Football League records, who can name them? (A bar of Galaxy for Minxy if she can get the correct answers.)

Terry Bly scored the most goals in a season - over 50 I believe

The most goals scored in a season for one of the lower divisions?

Do I get half a bar if they're right?

Good effort Maestro - Terry Bly did indeed score over 50 league goals in a season, 52 in fact, in the same year that Posh set the
record for most League goals in a season, 134 in the 1960-61 season.

I don't know about having half a Galaxy, will a Milky Way do?

My dad told me all about Terry Bly. He adopted Posh as his 'second' team, because his future mother - in - law was a posh fan

One other little oddity that has occurred -

On 8th December 2009 Posh were held to a 0 - 0 draw by Ipswich at Portman Road.

Posh then played a further 156 games without having a goalless draw. That run came to an end on 9th March 2013
when Posh played Ipswich at London Road.

Co-incidentally Posh's biggest win in the Championship was the 7 - 1 thrashing of the Tractor boys!
