Well i was just reading this article, and after putting a fiver on you lot to get into the play offs early on this season i have being following you fairly closely. And obviously the side you have may not have the individual stars that you once had, but i think that the side is more complete than it was last year and i highly rate Malky Mackay and i feel you are a team that a lot of sides and most commentators are not rating them that highly, but i am not quite sure why. Just wondered what you guys expected this season?
personally i expect top 6, in general i'd say people on this forum would settle for top 10-12, but its worth remembering that just because teams like west ham and leicester have spent big doesnt mean they will automatically finish in the top 2. leicester have 4 points from 4, and west ham have 7 from 4, neither of which is promotion form. i think alot of the signings this season have been good to average. some punts, some experience, and some youth, the only established leading player i'd say is miller. i'd be very disappointed with mid table mediocrity - regardless of the squad because weve finished there the past 2 seasons, no club wants to be perceived as going backwards.
^^^^^^^What he said in a nutshell. Basically, mid-table should not be seen as satisfactory, let alone a target. I expect us to compete for promotion and achieve it preferably in an auto spot, but if not, we'll be third time lucky through the playoffs.
Expectations are not so high this season, but I expect us to be in the mix, top 10 definitely, play offs probably, auto's hopefully...................I've got my money on a 5th place finish................then we all know the playoffs are a lottery
realistically mid table will be a bonus for cardiff, i dont think they are anywhere near the bigger clubs in the league in strength and depth, MM is building and that will take a few seasons until cardiff are good enough....patience is a virtue...
They don't rate us that highly because the players we have brought in are not as good as the players who left -it's that simple. Also, we don't have Bellamy and are unlikely to get him. We've got a hard working squad of players (though I thought we had that last year (apart from Bothroyd). We have a team who (supposedly) are going to be fitter and play better as a team. The local press were glad to see the back of Dave Jones, and played some part in influencing opinion aginst him, and there's now been a lot of 'Malky is wonderful' hype locally. Whether he is a better manager than Dave Jones we won't know till May. Again, another reason why we are not rated that highly is probably because for all the local pro-Malky hype he is still only a young manager, learning his trade, who has had just one good season so far. (good means finishing mid-table, which is probably what we will do this season - realistically if we finish above tenth then Malky will have proved his worth). Last year, even after our Play-Off final defeat we kept an experienced successful manager and mostly the same team, and I would have predicted a top six finish (which is what we got). With a new inexperienced leadership and such a new squad I think your fiver may have been wasted this time around.
I agree with the first few posts. Expectations are less but we still should be competing up and around that top 6. We didnt get rid of our manager to go backwards and Malky could have stayed at Watford for a mid table finish. We are doing ok at the moment and we are only going to get better. We all know that we would have lost a game like Tues nights in the past. There is something different about our attitude, I hope we still have enough qualty to make that count.
The expectation is to do better than 4 points off auto last season. It makes no difference what players we have anything less than Dave Jones did will not be good enough. The expectation is we will bring in more players now and again in the January window to do the job. how we do that is the managers job. This talk about players need to gel is rubbish that guy Brighton had did not need gel, at this level either you can play or you can`t. Tactics will help along with a better work ethic this season.
Dai...Pretty funny guy. You went from saying that Swansea would get 50+ points a month ago to just a couple of days saying you would be lucky to get 20 points. I think it is fair to say your opinion is worthless. I think Swamp summed it up perfectly. I want us to be top 6. I think we will be around the mark, but 7th to 10th would not be a disaster. I have also not been over impressed by MM signings, though I think the benefits of them may be seen later.
Did he post this on your board? In that case you can take it that, like us, he doesn't give a **** about your 'opinion'. There is one South Wales team thats gonna spend the year nailed to the bottom of the table and it isn't us!
A Cardiff asks for other Cardiff fans opinions and 2 Jacks reply. This seems to contradict what they keep telling us that we are irrelevant to them. Dai, as for 'mid-table would be a bonus'. Siam has got it spot on, you change your mind like the weather and then lie to cover your tracks even though by your own admission you only deal in 'facts'. So kindly take your pathetic opinions and **** off back to the pikey board and continue to depress everyone over there with your negativity now things aint going your way.
What, we get players in and suddenly they can`t pass the ball? Suddenly they can`t defend? Well from what I saw the back end of last season that is exactly what we had with the over-gelled players. We get strikers in and suddenly they have no idea where the back of the net is? Players certainly improve but to suggest they need time to pass the ball to a player on the same side and need time to gel is beyond me. We have managed to pass to a striker from the other side twice this season just outside our penalty area but I have seen international players do that. I expect us to finish top and if we fail then second will have to do.
We get players in and they can still do their jobs but at this point that leaves us 8th. I am hoping that given a few more matches together the unit will do the job better. I have suported the City too long to expect anything. I am hoping for further improvement and dont see why any party involved would not be hoping for the same.
The only team I think will definately have a good season is the hammers IF they keep their players. Surely Parker has to play PL football and assuming that happens then the league could be anyones, playoff spots the same. The division looks so competitiive this year a team could do pretty well for 80-90% of the season and end up 12th or 13th. There is still the possibility to transform your squad with transfers and loans. It would be interesting to compare most teams starting 11's for the first few weeks of the season to the one that ends up playing in April and May. I think all of us accept we could do with some pace and if we don't add many more we'll need a bit of luck with injuries but I think you could make similar/comparable statements about nearly any team in the division. It was funny hearing the Leicester fans on Radio 5 last week calling for Svens head and kicking off he hadn't brought in players who were any better than what he had in the first place!
