Despite a valiant effort will pompey survive? will the shame of southampton being the top team in the south embarrass pompey even more than their third world facilites would suggest. Good luck in your search for a manager.Hopefully you can find a fan so as to ease the pressure on the wage bill as we allknow the financial situation at pompey.

Let's just say, we have a better chance than Farnborough.

Yes... They're too good to go down but I don't see them higher than 16th ish...

Stability is the key for now <ok>

let them have this moment, bless em, they've been languishing in the lower leagues and understandably want a bit of glory compared to our 7 illustrious seasons in the prem.
Top of the league, well done. <ok>

I'm going to assume this isn;t an attempt to WUM and answer in all seriousness.

Pompey wont go down. We have enough quality in the squad to finish mid-table easilly if the team start playing properly both at home and away. A mid-table finish is a perfectly acceptable goal for this season.

In the history of English football Southampton have generally enjoyed a higher league position than Portmouth and it has done absolutely nothing to "shame" the club or the fans before. Pompey fans - who buy into that rivalry stuff - have always lived happy in knowledge that while Southampton generally have occupied a higher position in the league than Pompey they have done little with it and not won even half the major trophies Portsmouth have.

The facilities at Portsmouth have been woefully neglected by a succession of owners since the 1940's for players and training and the 1950's for stadium facilities. It is a major problem that has never been properly addressed and has been one of the main reasons Portsmouth have never managed to acquire and maintain a position high up in the league. The new owners have appeared to be interested in improving this side of the club so that is a positive step for the future.

The hunt for a new manager is, apparently, coming to a end soon, according to reports in the news. Sean O'Driscoll is the front running according to Skyports, he doesn't have a bad record and has a reputation for making his teams play attractive passing football, so I wouldn't mind him. As usual the whoever gets the job will get my full and unwavering support regardless of results.

I think this thread was certainly a wind up! It goes without saying we are delighted to be topping the table (who wouldn,t be) but most of my fellow saints fans are taking absolutely nothing for granted.
We have been very fortunate to have been aquired by a seriously wealthy gentleman and, following his untimely death his family appear to be willing to fulfil the dream.
In addition, we also have a very astute chairman/CEO like Nicola Cortese.
I think the failure PFC to attract a really wealthy owner is, as you rightly point out, as a result of a serious lack of vision over a long period of time.
A new, or greatly revamped stadium is an absolute must if you are to make any headway & of course a new training facility.
I,m not at all convinced that your current owners can fund the massive investment that this will require.
However, I think you are far from being a bottom 3 club in the championship but your fast diminishing support leads me to think that your erstwhile supporters
think otherwise. We must all also remember that financially times are tough at the moment right around the world & few people are willing to throw money - if they
have it = at a football club. It ain,t a good investment.

  10. This was a rather poor attempt at wumming but Pompey will be absolutely fine although I can't see them finishing higher than 13th-14th. With class players like Rocha, Kitson and Varney you have far more talent than Bristol Sh**ty or Coventry or Donny Rovs.

Have just been reading an article about the disparity in wages between the leagues and how Premier League clubs are now finding it nearly impossible to find investors.

Our new owners are businessmen, they aren't going to invest big, no way.

One of the best things about the takeover at Saints was the lack of short-termism in the approach. Yes, we bought players to build a team to get out of League 1, but the emphasis was on "doing it the right way, so improvements to the training facility and development of the academy were part of the planning. Pompey need to have a similar strategic view.
Pompey's previous owners have tried to buy the dream and you know exactly where that leads. Actually, CSI sound like a pretty sensible bunch to me.
