Can Mark Hughes gel the wealth of talent available at QPR this season?

After a productive summer in the transfer market so far at QPR, can Sparky get the recipe right at Loftus Road ahead of the new season?

I have heard a great analogy used recently about QPR’s campaign next season. As they have had a brilliant summer in the transfer market that has seen them bring in a wealth of new talent, the question is therefore not about having the right ingredients. However having the right ingredients does not necessarily mean you can make a good cake out of them.

You see QPR’s squad list is littered with talent; Djibril Cisse, Adel Taarabt, Nedum Onouha, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Bobby Zamora remain from last season and the arrivals of Robert Green, Park Ji-Sung, Andrew Johnson, Ryan Nelsen, Fabio and Junior Hoilett just add to the pool on offer to Mark Hughes at Loftus Road.

There’s no doubting the West London club’s ambition, they are aiming for the top half of the table this season and are not even contemplating a relegation battle of the likes last season had in store.

They have a sure footed manager in Hughes as well, who will be able to keep many of those egos in check in the upcoming season. The arrival of names such as Park, Johnson and Nelsen brings with it a hard working ethos; a never say die attitude all three players possess.

Complimenting the talents of some of the more mercurial players such as Taarabt and the explosively talented Hoilett on paper there is no doubt QPR should have a productive season.

But many a talented team has failed before. Defensive frailties or inner turmoil can set even the finest selection of players up for a fall. West Ham’s side that consisted of Joe Cole, Freddie Kanoute and Paolo Di Canio were relegated and that is a warning sign to QPR that talent does not replicate hard work.

On a personal level I think QPR will have a successful season because the players Hughes has bought in are players willing to put in the man hours to win the scrappy games and the signing of Park Ji-Sung is inspired. He could be the star performer this season in a term that could be exciting or frustrating at Loftus Road. Whatever the case; when you look at the team on paper; there can’t be many teams that fancy a trip down to White City this season and with all those ingredients on offer Mark Hughes could make a pretty tasty cake.
