This is really an appeal to my fellow supporters. I have a massive gambling problem, lost practically everything but I still can't seem to stop myself gambling. has anyone gone through a similar experience and how do I stop?
Yeah go and post it on a gamblers anonymous forum instead of a football forum. Hope you sort yourself out.
I managed to stop when I was 20 by giving my missus full control of the finances. I even closed my bank account and my pay went in her account. There is a catch though....... To stop gambling, I had to stop drinking too until I could be trusted not to spend my drink money on gambling! The wife used to give me 50p to go out with, which was more than enough for a few pints of orange squash when I was playing darts Took about a year mate, but I've never gambled since, apart from being in the works lottery syndicate.
Thanks for the advice. It really is a massive problem for me and some others no doubt. A hidden addiction with no visible signs.
All problems have a 'cause' and 'effect' - gambling is the 'effect' of a problem - to get rid of it you have to (preferably with someone suitably trained) develop the desire to get rid of it then change the 'cause' of what makes you do it - hope that helps
We seem to have had an explosion of gambling in this country over the past five or so years. The bookies try to get your money from you and then tell you to be responsible in your gambling. How very nice, they must think its ok to take a certain amount from you before it really hurts.
Any problem has a 'cause' and 'effect' - gambling is an 'effect' of a problem; to successfully resolve the problem you have to deal with the 'cause'; the first step is to create the desire to change and then get someone to help you find and deal with the cause.
The internet is the main cause of the increase, especially the "bet in play" offers. Sadly, there's just no getting away from it.
Think of this hope it helps 1. Mike Ashley owns all bookies and what you spend helps fund the skunks 2. Alan Pardew may be in there on the machines or placing a bet on cisse being offside 50 times In a game Serious though, good luck. Seems some people posted some good advice.
Aye, I'm just pleased I don't gamble (other than the odd pound on the national lottery). I don't go into bookies, don't bet online, don't buy scratchcards. I do feel some sympathy for those who can't help themselves though. That must be awful.
Watched a documentary on the touch screen machines. They're only allowed 4 per shop so they're opening multiple shops sometimes on the same street just to get more machines out there, they're that lucrative. It's getting out of hand . legislation needed me thinks.
Couldn't agree more mate, but I bet the government will be reluctant to do it because of their own cut from the proceeds of gambling.
