. Will Town fans see DJ Campbell in the blue of Ipswich again? DJ Campbell wants quick decision â but his future comes down to QPR boss Harry Redknapp By Dave Gooderham Wednesday, January 2, 2013 8:56 AM DJ Campbell has called on parent club QPR to make a quick decision on his future â but admits he is unsure whether he will be returning to Portman Road. The amount of tweets I have had has been humbling â I just appreciate all the love. Iâve done what I said I was going to do â score goals and help us get up the league. I want to be happy in my surroundings and Ipswich has been great for me. It is a massive step towards what I want. You never know what is going to happen in the future.â Campbellâs prolific loan spell â 10 goals in 17 games â has made him Town fansâ number one transfer target in January. And while his three-month stay ended on a sour note when Town were soundly beaten 3-0 by Brighton yesterday, Campbell has reiterated that support by singing the praises of the Ipswich fans. But whether that will be enough to sign the permanent deal offered to him by Blues boss Mick McCarthy remains to be seen. Campbell admitted he was unsure what might happen in the next week or so and that the final decision remained with Harry Redknapp, boss of the Premier Leagueâs bottom club. The 31-year-old striker said: âI donât know what Harryâs plans are. Heâs the one who holds the key, heâs is the one who says whether I can go or not. âI have not spoken to Harry myself, but the gaffer here (Mick McCarthy) has offered me a deal and told me what he wants to do â which is great for me. âI have really enjoyed my time here and the fans have been great â as have the gaffer and the players. If the circumstances are right, I would definitely stay.â Campbell revealed he could have played for Ipswich in Saturdayâs FA Cup third round clash at Aston Villa â but Town and QPR made a gentlemanâs agreement to prevent him being cup-tied. Instead, he is expected to start for the Premier League side in their home cup tie against West Brom. A decision on his future could then be made next week although much will depend on who Redknapp brings in to try and carry out a Houdini-style escape from relegation. But Campbell insisted: âLike the gaffer here does, I want this resolved as soon as possible. Iâm 31 years old, I havenât got time for it to be dragging on.â DJâs message to the Super Blues âThe fans have been top-notch, I canât complain one bit. Unless some pretty strong promises are made (and kept) by Redknapp, you can see why Campbell might be tempted to stay at Ipswich, where he's clearly highly rated by the club, manager and supporters.
It's not his choice though,is it? Still a QPR employee, and, unless Ipswich or another club make an offer for him that we find acceptable, a place in the 25 is all he can hope for at Rs or another loan out. I would be very surprised if Harold promised him a starting place. Lets hope he brings his scoring boots back with him, gets a couple on Saturday, and flies from there.
No but he should be given a chance in the next couple of games and before the window closes before a decision is made.
Are we in danger of expecting too much from DJ? Seems that he's being held out as our savior and he's an ok prem striker from what my memory tells me. Personally i like him and thik he'll give his all, but we've all witnessed the diffrence in stadard for our other goal scoring genius from his NPC days to the prem. If he comes back, i think he'll be as good as what we currently have, but, is that gonna be enough ?
