Campbell sets sights on England Striker keen to make transition to international stage By Chris Galea. Last Updated: October 10, 2011 10:58am The 29-year-old, a summer arrival at Rangers from Blackpool, was linked with international honours last season after netting 13 times for the Tangerines. Campbell is now a regular Premier League performer with QPR, the club he supported in his youth, and the frontman is eager to make the step up to international level. "I felt that I was really close to earning a call-up for the international side last year at Blackpool and if I can emulate and even better that this time round then hopefully it will be my time," he told skysports.com. "It would be great for me as a person because every player wants to play for their country, so I'd be over the moon if that was to happen. "I will always keep striving to become an international player, so hopefully my performances on the pitch can do that." Humiliating The Hoops suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat at Fulham last time out in the Premier League, marking their third loss of the season. But Campbell is determined they can bounce back by making the most of their home advantage when they host struggling Blackburn next weekend. "We've got to make Loftus Road a fortress this year because not many people like going there with the fans close to the pitch," he said. "Hopefully, that will be a benefit for us this year because no matter what team you are you always want to win your home games. "We are no different and I feel that we will be a decent away side due to the quality of players we have here, with great pace on the counter-attack, so we just need to make it count at home." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11711_7233654,00.html
Note to Neil Warnock, Tony Fernandes and Amit Bhatia. All these jokers coming out saying that they want to play for England ... well, so do I and at the moment I have the same chance as them .... NIL. Whilst it is fine to have dreams, you have to work for them. Time to stop talking, tweeting, pissing in the wind and DO THE BUSINESS FOR QPR ON THE PITCH.
He must be joking This is a reflection of how lost egos must work in premiership ... If DJ Campbell gets in England squad ever then we would be outside top 50 in FIFA rankings
I think we're being a bit hard on DJ. His goal to time-on-pitch ratio isn't bad, and he's had to deal with a virus too. Seeing as Betty's blooped, it's time for DJ to get a proper chance and step up to the mark
I agree Goldhawk, but it's hard to see him as a potential England player! But as North wrote if Betty can why not him..
Well I think both go hand in hand. To have any chance to play at national level he'll have to be playing at a high level for club, and if he's doing that (if/when he gets the chance) then that's great for us. I see no harm in a player aiming high. I'd rather have an ambitious player trying to get as far as he possibly can (no matter how limited he might be) than one just happy getting by as a squad player.
I think he's a long way off, but for me he has more of a chance than our 'skipper' does. He's seen Bobby Zamora get a call up after all
Just a point, bit he was the second highest English player last year for goals, wasn't he? For a side that got relegated.....
He needs to be both first choice for his club and score 15+ goals in a season, then he may have a chance, compare him to Darren Bent and see how long it has taken him to be just a squad player for England...
He needs to be picked ahead of Defoe, Bent, Carroll, Zamorra, and...who's that other one?.....Oh yeah...Rooney!! Get real DJ!!
**** me DJ Cash for Gold Teeth ... Local boy.. you are not a great footballer me old mucker and living off the fact that you scored 13 goals as a goal hanger in a side that went gun ho even if they were 4 down. sorry i know you will score a few for us here and there but collect the ball and beat three and then score its not going to happen ... love to see you prove me wrong but you should force a start out of NW first score in three games then i will apologise. wash your neck please
He needs to set his sights a little closer to home first. Like fishing for sea trout in a pike lake, it aint going to happen.
Gary Lineker was a bit of a goal hanger..and he didn't do to badly. If DJC can score the goals that keep us up, whether from 25 yards, 35 yards or 2 feet, i for one will be happy as it means he is doing his job properly, and also means the other boys are doing their jobs by creating the chances. Let's support our boys and not knock then, the press will do that for free. They are part of the QPR family, and whether their ideas are pie in the sky or not, I for one will not be having a go at their ambition
Ninj, you're a good poster but you don't half talk rot some times. People ain't "knocking" him, they're just saying that what he's saying is ridiculous. Talking about getting in the England team when he can't even get in the QPR team. Its about time the likes of him and Joey Barton stopped bigging themselves up and started proving themselves the only place it matters: The Football Pitch.
In that case.... '' QPR999 sets his sights on England'' ''QPR999, a member of the illustrious Not606 site has staked his claim to representing his nation in the 'Euro's' 2012. ' I haven't played for a bit' he said ' But, if I knuckle down and post a few good threads, and create a bit of banter, I cant see how Fabio can overlook me.' ' After all, every place is up for grabs, and I can kick **** out of the opposition, even better than Rooney can ever dream of. ' He has a point! Patrick Barclay, The Times.
