STUART Campbell insists he is not seeking a move from Bristol Rovers – despite having his name circulated to other clubs.

As revealed in yesterday's Evening Post, the experienced midfielder's days at the club look to be numbered with the Pirates advertising his availability to other clubs.

But the 33-year-old, pictured, who has made 287 league appearances for the Pirates and had a spell as caretaker-boss last season, says he is not the one instigating a possible move.

Campbell said: "The manager spoke to me last Thursday asking if I wanted to have my name circulated to other clubs. I told him that was up to him. We spoke again on Monday and I told him that I didn't want to leave the club and wasn't looking for a move – and if he wanted to circulate my name, then that was his prerogative.

"Now I have been told that my name has gone out to other clubs. I left it up to them and it's not my decision any more."

Campbell, who missed Tuesday's 3-0 home defeat by Port Vale through sickness, was linked with interest from Exeter City last summer.

The Grecians are also understood to have enquired about a possible loan move earlier this season, although Campbell says the idea of a temporary deal does not appeal.

"My contract runs until the end of the season, but I definitely don't want to go out on loan," said Campbell.

"If the manager or the club want me to leave, then that's up to them – but I can't see the point of me going somewhere on loan."

Campbell is one of only three senior players who remain at the club from last season, along with Byron Anthony and Gary Sawyer.

Boss Paul Buckle has brought in 18 new faces, including loan signings, since taking over during the summer and has already made it clear he envisages more comings and goings in the days ahead.

Rovers were today starting to prepare for Saturday's vital home game with Dagenham & Redbridge – where they will be looking to halt a slide which has brought four defeats in the last five games and seen them slip to 16th place in League Two.

I can't believe this man....Higgs needs to step in.
I'd get rid of Buckle NOW and ask Campbell (non playing) and Gill to take over.
He'd get the fans behind the team, and would have learnt from his previous experience.
(Also already on-site and wouldn't cost much!)

100% agree apart from gill. i say allow campbell to pick who he wants. might find the next lennie lawrence who obviously was better than a lot thought. look at palace now!

cams will get the fans back on song and will install in the players commitment.

buckle is only doing this to campbell to get at us fans like he did to harrold.

Pirate, the guy is a complete **** and i have now lost total faith in him. He needs to go, and go now. Its not as if he is a twat but we are winning games FFS, so he is causing friction behind the scenes and having a pop at those who are the club, US! THE FANS! THE HEARTBEAT OF THIS CLUB. He has to go IMO <grr>

Did you see our midfield on Tuesday....................no nor did I.

Most of us would have given Campbell the managers role with as stated a decent assistant for this season.

The trouble is that Buckle talks an excellent game and with what he managed on a low budget with Torquay last season he had a good track record, putting together a new team is seriously difficult forgetting the injuries he does not seem to give the players a decent run in the team which is unsettling and provides no continuity hence the inconsistencies.

We do need to build team morale up and from what we saw with Campbell last season he has that quality in abundance as for attracting players the PT and LL combo worked well and is worth trying a similar operation this season.

Other than that I would go for Eriksson........but he may be to big a name for the board

Perhaps we could have Campbell (not really a choice a want to be honest) With Reid as a director of football. I really would like to see Reid here in some capacity as he must have loads of contacts and a good knowledge of football etc

If Buckle was to go now, I wouldn't mind Reid as manager full stop anyway. However, Kevin Blackwell would be my no1 choice

How is it that a person we were all praising as little as three months ago now has almost everyone calling him names and vilifying him - it just doesn't make sense? Could someone please go onto the Gulls board and ask their supporters if he was the same down there in his years in charge. If he was - why wasn't it picked up by the board? Don't they read these forums? Don't they do their homework? Has this man changed so much since the summer?
We have had to put up with some crap over the years and I think it is all coming to a head - I just hope it doesn't rip the insides out of the team I have supported for getting on for 50 years.
