I'd take him off there hands! See if they want a swap for McLean + Simpson + Cullen? http://www1.skysports.com/football/...anted-by-a-host-of-Championship-clubs-on-loan
I know you jest about the swap but we really need to shift players first, we've got too many not good enough players on big money to sit in the ressies and unless McLean goes out I cant see us signing a striker.
Don't know why you'd want rid of Simpson on account of his performances this season. Bar the Ipswich game I think he's been very impressive.
Just seen this. To be honest I think all of them will go, baring perhaps Jay if he's bagged 12+ by Feb. Seems Mclean is around until 2014. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/hull-city/kader-vertragsende/verein_3008.html I dont necesarily agree with Rosie going, I just think he will cos I think we'll sign Elmo.
Think he's been better then he ever has been, but not anywhere near the standard of Matty Fryatt, or good enough for promotion. Could just be my opinion but I dont rate him highly enough
I actually know what you mean. I like Jay and he's good and I'd happily extend his contract but I dont think he's a 'number 1' striker for us, nor do I think Matty is to be fair. One of them 2 should be back up for sub impact, injuries and suspensions for me with the other and Mclean going..
As I've said on another thread, I'd like to see Simmo get a full season under his belt before being compared to Fryatt in any way. Simmo's record so far this season almost perfectly matches that of Fryatt last season, and considering Jay has never, ever had a run in the team in the two years prior to this one, (apart from playing lone striker in what was quite frankly a terrible side attack-wise - I think he went about 10 games without a clear-cut chance) it's harsh to judge him in such a way.
I'd love to see Fryatt in this team, we'd of won games like Charlton, Blackburn, Blackpool and Peterborough with the chances our strikers have had in those games!
We conceded three goals in the two latter games, that's more than a little far fetched. Not to mention you're suggesting that Fryatt would have scored at least 8 goals in those 4 games to win them.
I think the point was that we would have gone ahead first and wouldn't have been chasing those games, so they never would have scored three each. To a point, I agree, I think if we hadn't lost Fryatt, we wouldn't have lost those four games(pure speculation obviously).
Fryatt can be quite profligate with chances as well. I know he also scores a lot, but he always loved taking 1 more touch than needed and then losing a goal scoring opportunity.
I don't think fryatts goal scoring is really what were missing, I think it's his ability to hold onto the ball, comfortably wriggle his way through and out of tight situations between defenders and bring others into play. We always looked a far better side with him playing regrdless of whether he had his shooting boots on or not.
I realise I was exaggerating his point slightly (Ok, perhaps more than slightly ) - but still.. am I the only one who thinks that Fryatt is massively overrated? Yes, 16 goals speak for themselves, but we will never know if Simpson, Aluko or even Junior Lewis would have put away those chances if given them (plus all the ones Fryatt missed) Prior to this season I feel Simpson's game time has been too patchy for us to truly see his current level of ability - e.g his time at Millwall is hard to judge as he hadn't played for 6 months before that. Yes, Fryatt has the ability to score a game changing goal, but he's also capable of missing about six one-on-ones in a single game.
what i liked about fryatt is his ability to tap in an open goal from 2 yards out, you would think thats a given , but lately it really is a feeling of you dont appreciate what youve got till its gone..
This is always the same when a team have lost a game. Fans naturally think 'well if X or Y were in the team, we wouldn't have lost'.
I really don't see what more he can do to reach the seemingly biblical status of Fryatt? He's played well all round and took his chances well when he's had them which is the key thing none of our other strikers have done in recent years. I know Fryatt is injured so we miss him more because of that but christ, people are making out like he's our best player. Simpson's form this season has been better than any striker we've had since the PL IMO. He had plenty of chances in the equivalent games last season and we couldn't score then either, largely because he missed them. I normally disagree with Bob on this but he's spot on there. Fryatt, no matter what people like to make out, is not a prolific goalscorer. 1 goal in 6 or 7 chances isn't good enough for that. What he is is a skillful link-up player who can hold it up and turn on the ball, and particularly 'wriggle his way through' as Bob put it which is exactly what Fryatt does. If you look at his goals for us, a good proportion of them are made by himself because he's squeezed through an implausible gap and got so close that his skewed shot doesn't matter.
Yes but he should have scored over 100 with all of the chances he has had. I wouldn't call that prolific!
