I see we have been linked with making a 4 million pound bid for Cameron Jerome. Would be a good signing.

I personally feel that we should have had a big signing up front before now.

But in Sven we trust

I think with the squad we have any striker worth his salt should score 20+. My only worry is that he will be on premiership wages. At £4 million he is hardly a bargain.

With Berts message about Long, it looks as though Maynards totally off now.

Yeah may be a decent striker for us at this level, but there is no way he is worth £4m as it stands. I imagine, if he leaves Brum, he will go to a Prem club anyway, and would be suprised if it was for more than £2.5m. Sometimes you have to take a risk based on someone's potential and possible cohension in your team, but not at thhis price.

I think the papers, including our own Mercury at the minute, are just looking around seeing who is/may be available and putting 2 and 2 together.

The problem is, of the 11 top scorers in the division from last year, 6 are at Premiership clubs now, 1 is Andy King and 1 is injured. That leaves a choice of Long, Gradel and Sharp. Long is vastly overpriced in my opinion; considering he had a pretty poor record before 2010-11 and Gradel is a good player but not a striker.

I have said this before, and will probably get slated, but for the money being talked about, we could probably get Sharp and take a punt on Bradley Wright-Phillips???

Or, with West Brom rumoured to want Long, we could perhaps get Cox for £2/£2.5m??

Still only 24, he scored 7, 10 & 11 in his last three seasons in the prem, mayb a stint in a lower league would get him banging them in? He scored a few at Cardiff before going to Brum.

Agree that he is probably only worth £2.5 at most though, maybe put some add ons in?

I think there is bound to be a Premiership offer that would match that price, and after just dropping down, doubt he would choose us over the likes of Bolton or Fulham. I imagine the only reason The Mirror has quoted £4m is because this is what Birmingham supposedly paid for him after add ons.

I'm just not sure to be honest. The last time he played at this level he scored 9 in 43, I'm no Mystic Meg (both my eyes are straight), but I can easily see at least 3 or 4 of our players getting this many goals. I think he maybe has the attributes to be a good supporting forward with his height, but we are looking for an out and out striker/poacher at this point.

Before the Yeung financial scandal, Brum were saying they wanted £7-8m for him. A bit far fetched, but a decent player who to me has never fulfilled his potential. Think this is more paper talk than anything. Think Sven wants someone who can find the back of the net regularly, and take this up to the Prem as well. Still think NM will be his top target.

The way Berts talking, it could be that they are moving onto other targets that aren't Maynard.

About time too, I think that as good as NM is he has an appalling injury record and is going to be far to expensive

Sven said on the radio that we have always had a number of targets for striker. We are not close close to signing someone, but he hopes to have someone in before the chav game - maybe

I hope it's anyone but Jerome tbh - Maynard>Long>Keane>Carew>Heskey>....Jerome goes in the Ched Evans category, doesn't even bare thinking about.
