Hope the horse is fine <ok>

Was I the only one whose initial reaction was "ah, there we go, there's the "reason" for his defeats in the St Leger and Arc"? Anyone for the horse to recover but "sadly he won't race again and will take up stud duties next season"?

Hope the horse pulls through fit and well. If nothing else it demonstrates how lucky we are that Frankel has stayed sound and well over 3 seasons.

I'll have a fiver on your second option Oddy <whistle>

The fact they've called it "exploratory" rather than "emergency" surgery is a good sign.

Lets be honest, Coolmore will throw as much money as is needed at saving him. Colic ops are pretty common these days, GALILEO himself underwent one a few years ago and came through without a bother.

Interesting thing just happened. I was composing a post when the power went off (dodgy connection somewhere), After re-establishing power I came back and decided to abandon my post, only to find it had gone (posted). Very strange,

Anyway, doesn't exploratory mean in order to establish where the blockage is PN (ie he clearly has colic)?

They've not made it clear what type of colic they suspect - impacted, twisted gut, gaseous, etc. My impression, which is quite possibly utterly wrong, is that there is a problem so they are operating to try and find the cause quickly, rather than see what happens.

I've sat with a number of mares that have undergone colic operations - mostly caused by twisted gut a few days after foaling - and they do bounce back pretty quickly, so at this stage I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Racing Posthave tweeted that Coolmore have said Camelot is "fine" following surgery. A press statement will be made later today.

Great news. Hope the horse gets a second chance on better ground against top Group1 opposition as a 4 Y O.

For anyone who might be interested in knowing a bit more about colic in horses

    and also this

Given how poorly Camelot looked on Arc day I suppose it's conceivable that he wasn't 100% and that maybe the exertion of the race might have been a contributory factor to subsequent colic. I wouldn't want to speculate but if there was something amiss, he did well to finish alongside such as Sea Moon, SNA, Shareta and clear of Meandre.

It would be sweet if he recovered sufficiently to win some Group 1 races next year

With the news that Camelot is back at Coolmore and recovering, we can theoretically look forward to seeing him as a four-year-old. However, if they decide early next year that the horse is not enjoying himself and they decide to pack him off to stud, they have already got the start of an excuse in place.

If he does return to the track in 2013, expect him to start in the Tattersalls Gold Cup as O’Brien has farmed the race in recent years.
